Italian Holiday- Venice, Florence, Sorrento; need your expertise!

Hello fellow travelers....

Originally we decided that we would spend the last 2 nights of our trip to Italy in Rome (early July 2013) because a friend that was coming with us has never been. We've just found out her plans of coming at all are now TBD due to work.

We have been to Venice, Rome, and have done a day trip to Florence in the past, but now we are thinking of skipping Rome entirely and paying the $150 total penalty to change our tickets to depart from Naples vs. Rome and spend the 2 nights elsewhere.

Should we add 1 night to Florence and 1 night to Sorrento? I know it's all relative, but would love to hear your reasons why for a different plan.

The flight we are looking to change to departs Napoli Airport at 1:55pm. I'm assuming that we should not have any issues making that flight if we plan on taking a taxi from our hotel in Sorrento. Anyone have a guesstimate of how much this will cost? I've heard that it's also possible to take the train, but that it may be questionable. Any thoughts you may have on the hotels in Florence and Sorrento are appreciated as well.

Venice- 3 nights, staying at Locanda Orseolo (love this B&B)
Florence 2 nights staying at either Hotel Davanzati or Hotel Laurus
Sorrento- 3 (base to see Sorrento, Capri, Positano, etc...) considering Hotel La Favorita

As always, thank you in advance for your help!

Nanaz

I forgot to mention that if the taxi would be to expensive would we be able to make our flight if we took the hydrofoil from Sorrento Naples and then took a taxi to the airport?

In July, the heat could be crushing in Rome (and Florence). Sorrento will be very crowded (reserve early) but there is a bus that goes from Sorrento to the Napoli airport, and you'd have no trouble making that afternoon flight. There is no problem using the train, but you need to switch to a bus in Napoli central station, and dragging your luggage in the heat wouldn't be any fun at all.

>>>paying the $150 total penalty to change our tickets to depart from Naples vs. Rome <<<

I would be very surprised you would get a change fee of $150 on an international ticket. Most airlines charge $250. I would expect the Naples ticket would be more expensive also.

It's only $150 ($75 per ticket) as we purchased our tickets with miles.
