What is the best way to get from Andalucia (either Seville or Granada) to Provence - say Avignon. Are there cheap airlines? How long is the train ride?

The best website for international trains is bahn.de. This seems to show the only same-day daytime train option from Seville to Avignon is around 16 hours, involving three changes.
Avignon's pretty useless for flights. Indeed Andalucia-Provence isn't easy for flights at all.
Your best bet is to use any flight finding software, looking at flights from Malaga (Andalucia's main airport)to Marseille or Nice (the only real airports in Provence). There aren't any direct flights: the best place to change is Gatwick or Stansted, but allow at least four hours for the connection.
Through ticketing isn't usually possible, unless you fork out for a full fare airline. Unless you can find a connection through Germany on Air Berlin, or pay for a full price airline, you need to book two separate tickets, retrieve your bags at the connecting airport, go through immigration and check in again.

Thanks everyone - this is extremely helpful. Looked on Ryanair's website and found a direct flight from Seville to Marseille for really cheap, only booking through Dec. now (we're going in March) but gives me an idea of what can be done.
