Is 4 hours enough time to leave the Amsterdam airport
We are connecting to Ireland through Amsterdam. We have a 4.5 hour lay-over, and were wondering if that is enough time to leave the airport and visit either the Anne Frank house or the Van Gogh museum. Our bags will be checked through to Ireland, so we won't need to worry about those.

No matter how close the airport to the center of town there are a couple of ting you need to allow for:
1) time to get back to the airport
2) time for security for the ongoing flight
I would never leave an airport with that little time. All it takes is a delay in transit on the way back and you are up the creek.
And this assumes your plane lands on time. What is it's late? And how long will it take you to get through Immigration - granted you luggage is cheked through - but if the immigration line are long ???

If you have 4.. 5 from landing you,ll have to see how much time you have left after the passport conTrol.
On the way back you have to go through security and be at the gate at certain time
You might try AF' s house .
Not sure about the museum.

I definitely would not leave the airport. It will not be like visiting Amsterdam, but you can stay
busy in the airport. There is a library that showcases The Dutch culture and a branch of the Rijksmuseumin in the Holland Boulevard part of Schiphol. Also, lots of places to eat and shop, and there is even a casino.

I've done it with as little as 3 hours, but that meant taking the train to Centraal, walking around a little just to keep fresh, then heading back to Schiphol. I've done it many times with 4 hours - - but never tried to see a museum. It's more for a stroll and a meal and to keep moving after a long overseas flight. Several times with 4 hours I've taken the Zuidtangent bus to Haarlem, because the area near the Verwulft/Centrum bus stop has a nice market with great fish, the center of Haarlem is a quick and easy stroll (distances are compact, and you don't have the mess of grotty tourism & hordes that you find at Amsterdam Centraal) you can pick up cheese at great prices, and the bus runs every 6 minutes back to Schiphol.
