How safe are parking lots in Pompeii?

A friend is renting a car and driving from Rome to Sorrento, stopping to see Pompeii. She's worried about leaving her luggage in the car while touring Pompeii. Are the parking lots safe? Any advice?

I think (think) I read on this board that you can leave luggage in the train station which is right by the entrance to the Pompeii site. I've left luggage in other train stations overnight rather than leaving it in the car.

Do a search for Pompeii and luggage and perhaps you can find the info in case no one responds with a definite answer on this.

Hi Jahlie - There is a luggage store just inside the entrance to Pompeii.

Don't leave anything in the car!

WOW

I violated every rule !! Not once but twice. The first time I was there we found a car park kept everything in the trunk so at least it wasn't visible then went on to enjoy Pompeii.

No problems.

Last year I returned with my sisters and couldn't remember were my hubby and I had parked so directly across from the entrance is a little restaurant with a parking area and they charge like 10 euros to park so we just paid the money and parked and did Pompeii. It was nice not to park so far away and walk. This part was appreciated at the end of the day when we walked out of the ruins our car was right across the street at the restaurant undisturbed. We sat down had a refreshment and away we went....again...no problems.

I guess I was just one of the lucky ones....Sometimes ignorance is bliss they say.....

The Pompeii Scavi train station does not have luggage storage. The luggage storage at the entrance of Pompeii used to be free, but I'm not sure if it's still free.

Parking is perfectly safe as long as you park in a manned lot and don;t leave anything showing in the car. (You luggage and everything else must be in the trunk BEFORE you get to Pompeii - don;t move thing from inside the car to the trunk in full view in the lot - pacj the car that way at the hotel.

IMHO this is true of parking your car anywhere in europe - or in the US. (My B had the top of his convertible slit in the early evening (still light) of a major mall parking lot in an upscale area of LI. (So they could get to his sweater and ancient binocs inside.) It can happen anywhere.

Areala, I realize you posted this comment a couple of months ago. Did you rent the car in Naples and from whom?

Any details will be most helpful.

I want to rent a car only for a day and drive from Naples to Sorrento with a stop in Pompeii.

Thanks.
