How early to get to VCE-Marco Polo for 1 p.m. departure?
For those of you who have flown out of this airport recently, is it really as much of a madhouse as I've read on some other forums? October is still high season and 1 p.m. is middle of day. Have never flown Vueling so decided to pay the extra fee to get an advanced seat and my seat resv is confirmed via an email. Just concerned that I might need to arrive extra early? What say you, Venice experts?
Also, since I'm staying in eastern Castello in an apartment, am thinking I should stay near Piazzale Roma for my last night so I can take the fast bus to get to airport early (or even a land taxi?) I've already asked this in another post--any suggestions about decent budget hotel near the Piazzale? Someone suggested "Hotel Capital" but can't find anything with that name.
Thanks!

1 PM? You are fretting about 1 PM?
You do not need to move to Piazzale Roma. You can EASILY catch the vaporetto and then catch the bus or you can get the Alilaguna at Arsenale. (Depending on where you are staying.) It will take about an hour and a half on the vap/bus combo.
Even with all this, you'll probably arrive in time to have a last prosecco at the wine bar in the terminal.

My concern is based on reading posts in other forums where people arrived 3 hours early and barely made it on the plane. This is all within the last 2 years. Looks like before that the airport was much better. How recent was your last departure?
Apparently Arsenale is the closest stop for the Alilaguna. I plan to take it from the airport and sounds like a nice trip. Just concerned about the departure. The next Vueling to Barcelona is not until 22:00.
Do you live in Venice? Lucky you! Thanks for your reassuring words.

Many times your flight will not be listed until two hours/one and a half hours before take off so no reason to get to Marco Polo more than two hours before flight WITHIN Europe.
You could end up sitting and waiting to find out where to check in, especially when flying a small airline.

hi Samoca
I don't live in Venice but I do go pretty much every year. Having said that, the last time I flew out of Marco Polo was two years ago. I have flown IN on several occasions, but that is of no help to you.
I haven't heard about these 3 hour check ins but moving to Piazzale Roma is not really going to help you.. you'd still have to move there the day before, and that would be a pain. Just allow 1.5 hours to get to the airport. Where are you flying to? If it is the US or another location outside Europe, then yes, get there 3 hours ahead. If it is inter Europe I would say 1.5 - 2 hours is enough.
The flight I took two years ago was Vueling to Barcelona, and check in was easy peasy then...
