Coco, am I correct in thinking that the traditional/formal greeting one would expect to see printed in a holiday note or card would be "Meilleurs voeux pour le nouvel an" (or "pour la nouvelle annee"? Whereas "bonne annee" would be more of a saluation at the end of a letter, or in person? This is my memory, but it dates back about 20 years, so I am curious as to what is au courant . . .

Bonne année is definitely the in-person greeting. Depending on whom you're writing to, that can also be sufficient among friends, but for an older person or more formal greeting, I would put "Meilleurs voeux pour la nouvelle année 2007"
