Are you saying it in person or in writing?

You can also say "meilleurs voeux" (best wishes)and add "pour la nouvelle année". But "bonne année" is the simplest to say.

Coco, am I correct in thinking that the traditional/formal greeting one would expect to see printed in a holiday note or card would be "Meilleurs voeux pour le nouvel an" (or "pour la nouvelle annee&quot? Whereas "bonne annee" would be more of a saluation at the end of a letter, or in person? This is my memory, but it dates back about 20 years, so I am curious as to what is au courant . . .

Bonne année is definitely the in-person greeting. Depending on whom you're writing to, that can also be sufficient among friends, but for an older person or more formal greeting, I would put "Meilleurs voeux pour la nouvelle année 2007"
