Hotels in Nice, Monte Carlo, Barcelona

Flying into Nice, to take a cruise 2 days later from Monte Carlo. Have been to both -long ago. Better to stay in Nice or Monte Carlo? Need hotels -mid-range, in center of town- older couple, husband doesn't walk well. Ending in Barcelona (2 days) and need mid range hotel in city center.

What means "mid-range"? Give real numbers in Euro or US.

It depends on what time your cruise departs Monte Carlo as to where the "better" place to stay will be, however I can tell you that Nice is flatter in terms of terrain than many parts of Monaco, so that may affect your decision. If you're in no rush to get to Monaco, you could stay in Nice, catch the train to Monaco and then a taxi to your ship.

Hotels in Nice:
La Perouse - www.hotel-la-perouse.com Not sure if it fits your budget, but has great views and location is under Le Chateau, at the Monaco-end of the Promenade des Anglais.
Hotel Mercure Nice Grimaldi - http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-...di/index.shtml Near the pedestrian shopping area and fairly central, also have reduced mobility rooms.
Mercure Nice Marche aux Fleurs - http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-...rs/index.shtml Right on the Promenade overlooking beach and backing on to the Old Town (Cours Saleya).
Hotel Le Grimaldi - www.le-grimaldi.com Beautiful Mediterranean hotel in the centre of the city, just up the road from the Mercure above, about 10mins to the Old Town, 7mins to the beach, 3mins to Avenue Jean Medecin and right in the middle of the boutique shops area.

If you do decide to stay in Monaco, even just for the night before your cruise, then here are some hotels:
Monaco Hotels:
Hotel Ambassador - www.ambassadormonaco.com Good location, convenient to port and well appointed
Novotel Monte Carlo - http://www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-5275...lo/index.shtml Again, convenient to the port (taxi will stll be required for your husband), well appointed and good views from some rooms.

Barcelona Hotels:
Hotel H10 Catalunya Plaza Barcelona – odd name but nice hotel and great location in the centre of things; www.hotelh10catalunyaplaza.com/en/index.html Good rates for superior rooms - bonus!
Hotel Catalonia Ramblas – Part of the Spanish chain of Hoteles Catalonia (www.hoteles-catalonia.com/) which is a good chain (have stayed in a few), great location, easy access to everything. NOTE: make sure you choose Catalonia Ramblas as there are 22 other hotels in the chain in Barcelona.
Hotel Catalonia Duques de Bergara – 10 steps from Placa de Catalunya and 20 from everything else; http://www.hoteles-catalonia.com/hc/...=2007&noches=1
Hotel Husa Oriente Barcelona - a great location (but watch pickpockets on Ramblas) to walk everywhere and it was renovated a few years ago. Has great online rates too. www.hotelhusaoriente.com/en/
Hotel Catalonia Albinoni – this one is just up from Placa de Catalunya, so it’s central and easy to walk everywhere; http://www.hoteles-catalonia.com/hc/...=2007&noches=1
Ambassador Hotel Barcelona – good location and good hotel; www.ambassador-barcelona.com/

That should give you a few choices - enjoy your trip!

Hotel le Grimaldi in Nice books up fast -- very popular and with good reason. I stayed there two years ago with my 80+ mom and a friend, and it's in the center of town, great location, and reasonable. The rooms are FABULOUS! We had a bathroom the size of a pied a terre in NY, and our room had a nice view!
