Hotel reservations needing a copy of my credit card?
I have requested a stay at the Pushka Inn in St. Petersburg and not only do they want a one night deposit(which is reasonable) but also a faxed copy of my credit card. I've never had a hotel request that but on the other hand I've never traveled to Russia. I would value your opinions and comments. Thanks KV

the number may be alll they need - but it is pretty common for hotels in Russia to ask for a faxed copy. It isn't any more dangerous than just sending the number/exp. date. (as long as you don't fax a copy of the back w/ your signature)
The hotel is merely trying to insure that you actually have the card and aren't using someone else's cc number.

That doesn't surprise me, as it really is more stringent control on you actually having the card. I think Russia has a lot more crime than some other countries, and some of the current fraud schemes (internet or otherwise) originate in Russia, as well as it being a haven for various computer problmes (phishing, spam, etc).
