Never stayed there but can suggest you try Sangallo Palace Hotel. We stayed there a couple of years ago and were pleased because of its proximity to the escalator leading to old town and the ease in parking our car next to the hotel with easy access from the autostrada. It's definitely a business-type hotel but we thought the rooms were quite comfortable with a fine buffet breakfast. We were there in the off season so rates were relatively low.

Zola, we stayed at the Albergo Morlacchi last May for 3 nights at the beginning of a 3 week stay in Italy. Our room was a double ensuite, very comfortable but nothing posh. The owners were very pleasant which made for a very comfortable stay. I liked the location of the hotel as we were able to walk throughout the center of Perugia and didn't need a car. We arrived from Rome by train and took a taxi up to the hotel. It's on a small street not far from the Piazza IV Novembre. We enjoyed our stay in Perugia and would have liked to stay longer. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have. Deborah

Hi again Zola,
I always stay at the Hotel Fortuna, I love the location (and the free Internet after 8 p.m. and free Wifi)There's a really wide variety of rooms. Many have balconies and there's a fantastic rooftop terrace.
But, the Albergo Morlacchi looks great, with some character and with a wonderful price.

Deborah: You say you took a taxi there from the train station. One of the reviewers at venere.com indicated he also took a taxi from the station (adding as well it was a good method for a first-time visitor), but then said the owners indicated a 1-euro method of transportation from hotel back to the station. Did you use some other form of transport that was was cheaper than a taxi not too far from the hotel/(read: not inconvenient)? also, it's located upstairs, yes-? if so, was there a lift?
sacc: thanks again. I had checked out Fortuna after I noted your original post. grazie mille nonetheless.

zola, because it was two of us we decided to use a taxi each way from the hotel to the train station. We were picking up our rental car to use during our stay in the Umbria region at across from the train station. When we were there in mid May Perugia was very rainy and that made the taxi worth the extra expense. We stayed nice and dry!! The taxi ride was about 15 euros each way and was certainly easy. If you will be in Perugia for a couple of days you might be able to sort out a cheaper means of transportation to the train station than we did.
If you are interested in seeing the Perugia museums we found the Perugia Citta musea card a bargain. In May, we paid 10 euros each for a 48 hour card that included an audio guide which we checked out both days and entrance to 5 museums.
We had a very nice meal at La Taverna, a short walk from the hotel. We found a good selection of inexpensive restaurants close to the hotel. We had pizza our first night in Perugia at a restaurant called Mediterranea, Ron and I each had a pizza and I had a medium sized pitcher of wine and Ron had beer. Our meal was abourt 24 euros.
Don't miss Rocco Paolino, there is commentary about the area on the audio guide. We enjoyed Perugia in the midst of all the rain, I know I'd love it in sunshine Have a great trip. Deborah
