Hi Everyone,

I am going to Italy for my honeymoon on 28th May, 2013 to 9th june, 2013. Landing in Rome and flying out from Milan. I have already booked the tickets.

My fiance and I have come up with a rough itinerary but I am finding it very hard to finally put it together. can you guys plz help:

28th May: Arrival in Rome at 18:00 hrs
29th may: Rome
30th may: rome
31st may: Amalfi coast(where to exactly saty in amalfi coast and what all should i cover, i am not able to figure out and also how to travel. From Rome which place should i go to)
1st June: Amalfi coast/capri island
2nd june: Florence
3rd June: florence (side trips. to finalize)
4th june: florence(side trips or relax)
5th june: venice
6th june: enroute verona to lake como
7th jun: lake como
8th june: Milan
9th: fly from milan

Our interests are:
Wine and Food lovers
Little bit of history
Would love country side(intend to cover this mainly in florence)
very little of shopping
More of romantic dest and occasionaly parties and night life

Please help me tweak this itineray .

I think you would be better served to leave out the Amalfi Coast and Capri on this trip. Getting there from Rome would take most of May 31, and getting from there to Florence would take most of June 1. You wouldn't really have time to see anything there.

Also, you only have about half a day in Venice, as you have to account for travel time from Florence, getting to your hotel and checking in.

From Rome you should go to Florence on May 31. On June 3 you could go from Florence to Venice, which would give you 3 nights there. There is a lot to see in Venice, and that way you would have time to do so.

Where are you staying on Lake Como?

You are way overextended:

I'd do four days Rome, three days Florence (including a side to rural Tuscany), three days Venice, a day in Lake Como.

You have enough time to visit Venice, Florence and Rome and enjoy the trip.

Adding more places will turn your honeymoon into a trek.

Especially as you say your top interest is food and wine, I would suggest visiting Rome, Venice, Florence (or you could drop any of those; you WILL return) and using every available day in rural Tuscany in the area of Montalcino.

I agree with all the other posters with one exception. If you've already booked your flight back from Milan you might give yourself a day there as well. Venice is my great love and I'm going there in June for a month. One day in Venice would be a great regret, I promise. But I love the Tuscan and Umbrian hill towns, and also agree that a few days in rural Tuscany or in Umbria would be nice. Umbria also has some great wines and I would recommend if you do go to Umbria, a visit to Monte Falco for the Sagrntino. This time around, skip Lake Como, Amalfi coast and Capri. You'll get there some day when you can also see Naples, and perhaps Sicily.

I agree---4 destinations is all you can handle in that time---drop the AC which is hard to access.

Thanks for the suggestions. I understand too much travel would spoil the fun of honeymoon.

I didn't want to drop Amalfi Coast for Lake Como becuase Amalfi Coast is in the bottom part of Italy. Though Italy is very tempting, I would definitely not travel to Italy again in the near future before visiting other European Countries. So, I feel if i leave out AC now, it will be left forever where as Lake Como can be covered when I plan to visit Switzerland in near future. Suggestion plz?

With a heavy heart, leaving out Lake como.

I think you are right when you say " if i leave out AC now, it will be left forever where as Lake Como can be covered in near future" ...Don't miss AC, although I believe one day is not enough to appreciate its wonderful coast and its beauties. I recommend Palazzo Rufolo with its lovely garden, court yard and terrace commanding panoramic views and Villa Cimbrone with its famous Belvedere.

You don't know that because you haven't been to Italy yet.

From your latest itinerary, you also haven't gotten our very subtle hints
"leave out the Amalfi Coast and Capri"
"visit Venice, Florence and Rome" - 3 times.

I think that one night in Venice will leave you unhappy. You would be better off not going there at all.

Wow, that's a lot of moving around for a honeymoon... Just want to make certain you've asked yourself if seeing a destination for only a day is really worth half a day (or more) of time spent traveling to get there, time that could alternatively be spent really seeing just a few destinations well. With such a short time window, I too would leave out the AC on this trip. If you really, really want a beach, consider doing Rome, Florence, Cinque Terre (or other Ligurian beach spot), Milan. You will minimize cross crossing all over the country this way. Venice is amazing and perfect for a honeymoon, but merits at least a couple days and nights at the bare minimum.

I have few questions here and there ...once i m done on my visa .i will drop my queries once again..
