Staying in Italy this August with another couple as 1 year anniversary trip.

We decided that we wanted to travel to:

Rome
Florence
Venice
Capri
Lake Como
Almafi Coast
Tuscany- (possibly a day visit)

We are going to be staying for 14 nights. Any suggestions on where we should and should not spend a night- what places are easier for a day trip....

We wanted to end the trip with a few days of relaxation.i

Suggestion: Cut your list
down to three places, at most! There is no time in there at all for relaxation, and spending 2 days in Rome, Florence or Venice is a sure way to ensure that you will be hot and frazzled, particularly in August. Not to mention that you will emd up hating Rome, Florence and Venice!

P.S. Florence is in Tuscany.

my friend has traveled to Italy frequently, and she loves Bellagio rather than staying in lake Como. We are going there in May, so that might be a location you like. Marilee

Just to clarify: Como is a lake, and a small city, which is named the same as the lake that it sits on.

Bellagio is a town on the shores of the lake. It is a smaller and prettier town than the town of Como.

Now, let me say that I think Eloise and Dale are spot on with their advice. 'twer me, in August, I would pick one of the trios that included water.

I think we should stay with the original itinerary and add a few other destinations to make sure they do not miss anything in Italy. The Italian Riviera with Portofino and Cinque Terre, Milan, Taormina and the Aeolian islands should complete this trip.

Instead of seeing Italy top to bottom why don't you cut it in half? Either start at Rome and go north, or go south? With travel time, hauling luggage and trying to enjoy yourselves, I think a maximum of 3/4 cities would be more than enough. And in August I agree that spending some time by the water will really make your trip more enjoyable.

Agree with everyone else that you can;t cover all this territory in just two weeks. You have no idea how exhausting the heat (and many place have no AC) and crowds will be.

Just one more note - make sure your hotels have AC (many in europe don;t) and that it is up to US standards and it runs all night. (Some hotels run it only during the day.)
