Honeymoon end of August - Italy? Croatia? Greece? Help!

Hi,

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for the last week in August. We were originally planning to go to Italy - but apparently I am the only person that didn't know that August is a TERRIBLE time to visit Italy. if we did go, we were plannng to do Tuscany and perhaps some beach time somewhere. We didn't want to hit up the big cities. Anyway - i have heard from enough people that I am now rethinking. Any suggestions? Is Italy as bad as everyone says in August? Any thoughts on Greece or Croatia?

We live north of San Fran so we are a bit spoiled in that we see lots of pretty scenery on a daily basis. We are also fairly active - but would prob be looking for slightly more of a beach/resort vacation given that it is our honeymoon. Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated!

August is a lousy time to be travelling in Europe. It's way too hot and waaaay too crowded. I love Greece but would not wish August in Greece on someone going there for the first time. If you can postpone until September you'll get better weather and it won't be anywhere near as crazy-busy, especially out on the popular islands. I imagine the same thing goes for Italy and Croatia as well.

Many people visit south of Europe on August and have a great time. One reason people (me included) advice against August if possible, it's the huge crowds of people visiting . But if no ohter dates are available, so be it. I do not think any country can be TERRIBLE unless you are extremely sensitive to crowds or high temperatures or had unrealistic expectations of been only you and your fiance visiting. Even then you can simply head to less popular places or tickle your daily routine to avoid hotest parts of the day. No big deal. It is a personal call I guess..

One bit of good news is: the last week of August isn't quite as busy as earlier in the month, since that is when people begin returning home from their holidays. So if you plan to arrive during the last week of August and stay into September, that may be a very good time to go. If you can delay your honeymoon by even a week, though, it will make a difference.

There is never a terrible time to visit Italy! You will be so amazed by the beauty around you that you won't care that its hot or crowded. Even in the large cities crowds can easily be avoided by getting away from the main tourist sites. And if you have a beach or pool and A/C, the heat won't bother you either. Last week of August should be better than earlier in the month on both counts. Greece and Croatia are both lovely, but will have the same issues as Italy. It's your honeymoon... Go and enjoy!

Hey guys, i agree with msteacher on this one! There is no terrible time to visit Italy, especially the Tuscan region. Plan a Euro Trip guys, that will be the best honey moon ever! Do not worry, there are a lot of rentals with swimming pool, air conditioning etc. I can suggest a few places to stay good luck with your trip!
