Help with Turkey trip starting from Bodrum

My husband and I will be in Greece in early September and are considering Turkey as a detour. We are thinking of travelling from Kos Island in Greece to Bodrum in Turkey and later return to Kos Island from Bodrum. We can spend at most 7 days in Turkey, and would really appreciate advice on routes/ itenery/accomodations etc. we'd like to travel at a relaxed pace but are open to suggestions.

Some more questions:

1. How can we book ferries to Bordrum while we're on Kos Island? should we book in advance or after we've got to Kos Island? If on Kos Island should we go to a travel agent or book at the ferry terminal? There seems to be different types of ferries eg hydrofoils, how should we decide?

2. Is it worthwhile taking a boat trip for a couple of days? If so should we book in advance or do it on the spot? Which place in the coastal area is a good place to start the boat trip?

3. We're looking for budget to mid-range accomodations. Any recommendations?

4. Which is a better mode of transport in Turkey: car rental or bus? What about the cost each?

Thanks for any help out there!

Hi bilibalar,

You can go to the travel agency in KOS and buy your ticket (You do not need to buy in advance)

When you come to Turkey. You may take a GULET tour (4 or 7 days) for your relax tour or visit Bodrum Castle and Mausaleum (One of the 7 wanders of the world) stay in Bodrum a night then drive to Kusadasi or Selcuk (If you are looking for budget hotel) for your visit: (If you rent a car you may visit DIDYMA, MILETUS and PRIENNE on the way to Kusadasi).

Ephesus (ruin and Museum)
St Jean Church
Virgin Mary's house
Artemission (the another 7 wanders of the world)

You may stay in Kusadasi or Selcuk 2 nights OR if you want to stay in small hotel I recommend you go to SIRINCE

After Ephesus you may go to Pamukkale for a night stay and visit Hierapolis and Pamukkale IF YOU RENT a car you may drive to Aprodisias and visit this ancient ruin (Of course if you love Archaelogy and History) then to Back to Bodrum via MUGLA

I recommend you rent a car if you want to see more places othervise you can find many bus or DOLMUS (Small tranportation minibus between small town)

Have a nice trip in Turkey

I just got back from Turkey. In Bodrum we stayed at http://www.suhotel.net/eng/main.asp
The grounds are beautiful. I was a tad shocked at our room because it was very small and not facing the pool, so there wasn't much light. I had no idea that there were no tvs or phones in the rooms. It is literally a place to "escape" the chaos of Bodrum. If you could get a room facing the pool and are ok with no tv or phone, it's a peaceful place to stay.

In Kusadasi we stayed at Hotel Kismet, it was our "splurge" hotel at $125 US per night, but worth every penny. They gave us a suite for no extra charge, and the grounds are so beautiful I could have spent days just relaxing there!

Hi Bilibalar;
Couple of days in Bodrum, than to ephesus and even to Pamukkale is possible. If you find a two days Gulet Cruise you should take it, its an experinece and a good one.

Mid range accomodation : around 100-120 you should be able to find smart ones. Hotel By the sea could be a bit more expensive.
Booking ferries usually not a big part of the job.
Have fun
