Help with Room(s) for 4 in Prague in September

I had thought that the Czech Republic was inexpensive but I guess this does not extend to Prague. I am having trouble finding accommodations for the 4 of us. I'd like to be near the Old Town but I think we are priced out of that area. I don't mind being a little bit away from the main areas if public transportation is convenient. We are looking for clean rooms, B&B, apt, even hostels (if it's private & en suite) for a pair of under 26 girls, their mother + grandmother. I have sent out lots of emails but everything seems booked. We will be there for 5 days in late September. I would so appreciate any suggestions you can make. Thanks!

We stayed at this apartment in 2006 and really liked it. It isn't fancy, but very comfortable and clean. One of our favorite apartments in 11 weeks of traveling in Asia and Europe.

There was plenty of room for 4 people. The rate is 100 - 120 euros per night, sometimes with stay 6 nights and get the 7th night free.

The location was very good. If I remember correctly, it was 2-3 subway stops to the center of Old Town.

Try some of these websites, in addition to Vrbo.com (which has some good ones)...

www.travel.cz

www.marys.cz

www.a-prague.com

http://www.homesweethome.cz/en/

I am sure there is an apartment, or something suitable, out there that is free during your time frame. Browse through the possibilities, and post back if you find something interesting. I've stayed in many different places there, so I may be able to help.

We are staying at the Guest house Lida. We have read good reviews from different sources about this b&b.

I meant to add that the Guest House Lida will give you good tips on restaurants in their area. Reviews say the restaurants are very good and not so expensive. There are ATMs close by also.

BratsandBeer - thanks for the suggestion. I emailed them and the price is right. They do have room for us but we would be changing rooms everynight.

Have you been there already? How long does it take to get to the Charles Bridge. Everyone seems to measure to Center City but I don't know where that is or even if I want to go there.

travelgirl2 - I also emailed vbro. I rented an apartment in Rome and it was a disaster. I am hesitant to rent someplace without seeing a review of it by someone who has actually stayed there. Fodorites are such an amazing source of info that I feel comfortable with a thumbs up from this board.

As far as apartments, you can email that company I mentioned - www.travel.cz - and ask what is available. I've stayed in one of their places, and it was great. Definitely up to standard, very clean, great housekeeping, etc. Also, they have a support base that is around the clock. If something goes wrong in the middle of the night, or on a weekend, they will be there. Their places are not cheap, but it may work out with 4 of you.

I've used A-Prague, also, and they are good, too. However, travel.cz personally owns & manages all their places (as does marys.cz).

Thank you all for your input. I have found several possibilities. It is complicated by the need for few stairs & the need for individual beds.
Have you heard about the Castle Steps? They are about $400 more expensive than other places I've seen but it's right in the heart of the city. It looks great & the reviews sound good. I've also found Miss Sophies. Any opinion on this one? I'm trying to decide if I should splurge or be conservative.

We were in Prague several years back and stayed at Pension Dietzenhoffer. It was reasonably priced and had a great family suite. Very clean, great breakfast and helpful staff. It is located in Mala Strana, close to the bridge and basically within walking distance to a lot of sites. Prague is relatively small.

To answer you question - no I have not been to Prague so can not give you any info. We are going in September.

www.czechtourism.com Check out this website. There should be an email address to request a good walking map of Prague.

They sent very nice booklets and maps of Prague and the rest of Czech Republic.

We finally decided to go for the Castle Steps. It's an apartment on the 1st floor with 4 separate beds which is important to us if we want to get any sleep. It got great reviews & is very central. It's $1344 for 5 nights. I'll post when I get back & let you know the result. Thanks for all the suggestions.
