Help please with free night in Aveyron area

I am in the midst of making hotel reservations for our trip to France for September 2013. We are traveling with friends, so I wanted to firm up room reservations since we will need 4 rooms at each place.

So far, we will arrive in Montpellier and stay for 2 nights. Then we move on to the Gorge du Tarn area, and will stay at Chateau de la Caze for 3 nights. These 5 nights are confirmed. Then we have 3 nights that I had "planned" to stay at Hotel Le Vieux Pont in Belcastel. The plan was to visit Conques, Figeac, Peyrousse le Roc, and Villefranche de Rouergue from this base. And perhaps we would see Albi at this time. This will be followed by 6 nights in Sarlat, which is also confirmed, by the way. Our last night before the flights home will be spent in Toulouse.

We leave Chateau de la Caze on a Monday morning. I just discovered that the Hotel in Belcastel is closed on Sunday and Monday nights. The plan was to stay here for a Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday night. So, what to do??? Four nights at the Chateau seems like a bit much. Should I nix the Hotel in Belcastel altogether and stay somewhere else for these three nights? Or find another place for Monday night and then check into Hotel Le Vieux Pont for Tuesday and Wednesday nights before moving on to the Sarlat area. any suggestions if I did find another place for just one night? I did love the idea of staying in Belcastel...sigh...

There is a place that looks nice in Villefranche de Rouergue, but it only has 3 rooms and we need 4 rooms.

I would love some advice! I have a reputation of being a "great trip planner" that I do not want to lose. Of course, I always tell my friends that it is the people here on Fodors who make good trips happen.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.

Ummm..where is the Chateau de la Caze? I always recommend La Baume B&B in St-Privat near Florac, but if that's not near where you want to be, doesn't make sense.

Hi, St. Cirq. The Chateau is near St. Enimie. We did not plan to travel quite so far east as Florac. But perhaps that might be an idea to fill in this "gap" now in my itinerary. I will go to ViaMichelin and take a look again at Florac. The Moulin de Cambelong near Conques does not seem to have very good reviews on Trip Advisor any more.

I just remembered Julie V mentioning a place ... Grand Hotel de Rosiers or some such name. I will go back and look for it.

And, St. Cirq, I am loving the story of your house that you are currently posting.

Thanks for the suggestion.

No, Grand Hotel de La Muse de Roziers is backtracking towards Millau. I think I would like to find a place near Conques or Figeac. I sure did not see this coming...a hotel closed for two nights a week!!

Thank you, Cigalechanta. That is a definite possibility! It is close to Albi, which we wanted to visit this time.

I wouldn't make a special trip to Florac itself - just thought if you were going to be over east that way you might enjoy La Baume.

But since you mention Figeac, this place is spectacular (and pricey): http://www.chateau-viguier-figeac.fr/accueil.html

However, I read that it was for sale in 2010 and haven't been there since, so don't know what's happened to it - may have been some changes for better or worse.

Thank you, St. Cirq. I checked and found that the Chateau du Viguier hotel is closed for an indefinite time, but the restaurant is open.

I really am not crazy about having a one night stay in between our stay in the Gorge du Tarn area and our stop in Belcastel. Do you think four nights in St. Enimie in the Gorge du Tarn is one too many?

I had found a place in Boisset that looked very nice, but understandably, they did not want to take reservations for four rooms for only a one night stay.

Yes, I do think 4 nights in St-Enimie is too much. Let me think on this...

Last night when I could not sleep the answer came to me. A simple solution. We will leave home a day later. I had not made reservations in Montpellier yet. All I have to do is push the stay in St. Enimie up a night.

Thank you for your input, St. Cirq and Cigalechanta. I really did think 4 days was overkill at the Chateau de la Caze.

This will give us 14 nights of accommodations instead of 15.

Such a simple answer that took 3 days to figure out. Yikes. I have admitted to my friends that I am certifiably crazy when it comes down to planning a trip.

That is odd that the hotel In Belcastel is closed those days...I do not think it was lat year when we were there.Close by is the bastide village of Sauveterre en Rouergue. great village. the. Hotel there is called Le Senechal and the chef Michel Truchon owns it. it also has a Michelin star as does the Vieux Pont. This village and the hotel and restaurant is a great find. the rooms are large and very reasonable with lovely bathrooms and our room had a great balcony. The food is marvelous . make sure you have breakfast. wonderful.

Thanks, Kathryn. I have only found one real trip report about the Aveyron area on this forum. It was a great report by Images. After I read it, I knew I had to see the area for myself.

I did not have Sauveterre en Rouergue on my "must-see" list. Now it is! Any other advice you could pass on to me would be greatly appreciated.
