help! Hvar - Krizna Luka area or Podstine area?

Hello - We are going to Hvar for 4 nights. We want to book a guest home/villa/apartment. What is nicer - the Krizna Luka or Podstine bay area? Also, while I have your attention - has anyone stayed at Milicic Apartments (Podstine area), or Villa Domus Marina (Krizna Luka area) or Komazin Apartments (Krizna Luka)? Much appreciated!!

Hi,
My family of 4 stayed @ the the Milicic apts. in June for 5 nights. It is about a 20 min. walk to town, and at first we were not too thrilled about it, but very soon grew to enjoy the daily strolls. We stayed in their bottom floor apt. (#3) which really did not have much of a view, but a nice patio, were we spent a lot of time. The kitchen is dinky, w/ no stove or microwave, but we worked around that. Maybe the other apts. are better equipped. No real living room space in Apt. 3...but again, we spent most of our time outdoors. This is off the beaten path, and we like that type of thing, staying where people live as opposed to a more tourist area. We made all of our arrangements prior to leaving the states, and had no problems. We took a taxi to the house when we arrived, but walked (w/ our luggage) to the harbor on the day we left. We loved Hvar, and would stay there again. Hope this helps.

Hi - I appreciate the time you took to write that response. Yes, it did help me....the owner could not give me a definite yes/no whether we could have the apartment because they get return guests during the prime months. Therefore, we chose a different private accomodation - might turn out better since it is closer than a 20 min walk to town which we would not enjoy too much.

Hello - I noticed that you want to know where we ended up booking - the Komazin apartments - although it is still not very close to central Hvar town....now a 10-15 minute walk....maybe a bit less than from the Podstine area....we chose it because:
RATED #1 ON TRIP ADVISOR FOR SPECIALTY LODGING
HUGE APARTMENT - 76 SQ METERS WITH A BALCONY - GOOD FOR OUR GROUP OF 3 PEOPLE
5 MINUTES TO DIVING CENTER AND BEACHES ON BOTH SIDES OF THE HOUSE
2 BEDROOM, 2 BATHROOMS....LIVING AREA WITH FULL KITCHEN...AIR CONDITIONING.....VERY REASONABLE IN COST
HOWEVER, MOST IMPORTANT REASON - THE OWNER IS EXCEPTIONAL - PEOPLE WHO HAVE STAYED THERE CAN NOT TALK HIGHLY ENOUGH ABOUT HIM - SEE TRIP ADVISOR - ANSWERS YOUR EMAILS PROMPTLY AND VERY FRIENDLY....hope this helps you - we have yet to go - we can tell you more after our trip there - keeping our fingers crossed - (I have heard good things about the Milicic apartments though)

Hi Carrie!

If you are still reading your post, I was wondering why the owner could not give you an apartment if you were willing to pay the deposit? Were they waiting for returning guests to rent the apartment(s) before opening them up to new guests? That policy sucks!! In other words, their priority would be returning guests and not new guests! I was considering this apartment but I guess I have to look elsewhere.

I don't want to say any unkind things about the owner - I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.....I am such an organized planner and maybe it was possible he was leary about a person requesting an apartment a good year in advance (inquired Sept 2008 for a place in Sept 2009). Maybe it was just not meant to be. I was able to book a year in advance at the other accomodation and they accepted my down payment without hesitation. I hope I don't stop you in trying out the other holiday house.....I heard it is beautiful.

Thanks for your reply Carrie. Unfortunately I am like you and I book my accommodations wwaaayyyy in advance. We travel to Europe at least twice, sometimes three times a year and I have had no problems of owners refusing to book accommodations IF their booking season has already opened. (For example, booking season for 2009 was opened October 2008, so I started booking that month. Sometimes they say booking starts January 2009, so I'll book that month). But I think its different if the owner tells me that they don't want to book me because they are waiting for returned guests to book. Anyway, there are hundred of "sobe" or apartments in Hvar, so its not really a lost to lose one. Thanks again.

your question brings up the very puzzle I have been trying to sort out; how to find a map showing the areas of Hvar, especially the street names. How do you know where the Podstine and the Krizna areas are?

Since posting my response/question above, I found a website which lists the neighborhoods of Hvar town: http://www.tzhvar.hr/en/accommodation/private/
