We stayed last summer, right down the road from domus marini. I remember looking up at the pretty bulding. It is a very pretty residential shoreline. Very lush, flowers every where.

The views are fantastic from that shoreline. And I enjoyed my afternoon swims everyday!

It is a bit of a walk into town, sometimes seeming longer at nite after too much good food and wine....

Your walk follows along the shoreline, and it does pass by an extremely ugly apartment building (the old hotel bodul, not in view at all from your shoreline location), but I would stay there again (Apartment Bicanic). Look them up. We had the apartment with the porch covered in grape vine... such extraordinairy views!!!!

I wanted to cry when we left, and in fact, when we caught the ferry to Korcula, it took us 'round the bend and we got to look back on Hvar, and we could see our apartment. I wanted to cry again!

Korcula soothed the pain. I was in love again, with yet another island....

CORRECTION:

I have Villa Domus Marini confused with another place further down the road.

Domus Marini appears to be directly next to the hotel bodul apartment building. I would recommend moving further down the shoreline, yes a bit further down from Hvar town Harbor. The view onto that little marina area is not that terrific... But the view from the shoreline further down is great great great!

Take a look at Apartments Bicanic. Try for #3...

Good luck.

Hello Janelp,

Ok, I think I was much much too hasty in my first response, and then even in my second response...

I think people's recommendations or comments are great when they are rec'd before you make a decision, but when they come after -- what a pain. They make us unnecessarily uncomfortable and worried.

I looked at the web page again. The location arrow and name confused my reading of the map, even though I know that marina and shoreline so well from our walks back and forth to Apartments Bicanic.

So here's the final, final statement.

As for location... it would be an enjoyable walk around the bend, passing the monastery at the next cove, before reaching the town center. The apartments you have rented look comfortable, and colorfully decorated (ours was quite spartan...), and the lushness of the garden and palm trees will be very enjoyable. Your view towards that island is there... you just won't be looking back on the town and shoreline as we were from Bicanic. I think the Palm Trees will block your view of the Bodul hotel/apartments building (which on your web page map, is located just next to the "i" in your villa's name. The arrow pointing there, is what made me think your villa was right next to the Bodul.)

There is a soccer field, that is fun to watch locals play... that's what the green is on the map. There is a grocery store within steps, and a little restaurant. It is a popular little "corner", especially for locals.

If you continued walking around the bend, away from town, that is where you would find (off of your map), the apartment where we stayed. It is an interesting shoreline that anyone staying in Podstine area will surely miss, and I personally loved sunning, swimming and sipping wine there in the late afternoons. (strange little concrete blocks with ladders) every 100 yards or so -- the rest of the beach is rocky bolders (big enough to stretch out on). It would be a 5 min walk at the most for you, from Domus Marini and what a great place for a little "picnic"!

So, though I don't know you, I think you'll be fine at Domus Marini... And I do hope that you enjoy Hvar as much as we did. When we go back one day, I would want to stay in the same area again. But that's just me... I'm 46, a photography teacher, and travel lots...

Croatia is beautiful, and the people are lovely, really lovely.

4everywhere, thank you so much for your thoughtful response. You have helped me feel comfortable with our choice. I wrote the villa Domus Marini with a question about the hotel and the woman said it was across the bay. So if that is so and the tree hides it, we should be OK. I will post back after going to report on it. The area sounds delightful. Everyone I know says nothing but wonderful things about Hvar--in fact, all of Croatia. Thanks again.

I stayed over near the soccer field too--and went to that little grocery store every day. I loved staying in that neighborhood and watching soccer matches. It was the perfect distance from the "old town."
It's also close to where a trail along the shore starts--you can walk all the way to Milna with gorgeous views (except of the 2 naturist beaches you pass, there I averted my eyes, haha)

Hi Jane,

I just noticed that you have also been to Peru! That's where we're off to in a couple of weeks! Just a 9 night trip, we'll have a couple of nights in Aguas Calientes, 3 nights in Cusco, and 3 nights in Ollantaytambo.

We won't be there for any festivals, so I enjoyed looking at your pictures and reading your "travel" journal.

Croatia will be very different, given all that beautiful blue adriatic. Which by the way, we also stayed at the Villa Adriatica in Dubrovnik. I really enjoyed that patio, morning and night, for four nights. It was charming. I just couldn't get enough of that view!

Enjoy your trip to Croatia!

4everywhere, enjoy Peru. It is a wonderful experience even without the Inti Rayma festival. Glad you enjoyed our experience and pictures. Guess I should transfer to the Peru board for this discussion. We returned a few months ago from a year in Tuscany and wanted to get to Croatia then but didn't and so will go this time.
