I have been up and down these threads looking for recommendations and every hotel, apartment or B&B I have checked is already booked for 2 nights at the end of September or expensive. I have 2 hotels that are fairly decent sounding: L'Hotel Cinquantatre & Fellini Inn Rome but both are around $250 a night. Please help

Anything fairly close to historical Rome that is about $150 - we are seniors and would like to limit our walking.

May I suggest that you also go to Trip Advisor Rome hotels and see what is on their list? Have you tried all the hotels in the Campo dei Fiori? I am staying at the Residenza Canali (near the Piazza Navona) in Sept - try them.

SuzG, thanks for the name. I just checked and the place looks very nice -- 145 to 207Euros per night.

I will try the other sites listed again - unless we want to share a bath(we don't) I don't see a lot of accomodations for the price we would like to pay. Around the train station hotels seem to be cheaper but most of the advice I see suggests to stay away from that area especially at night.

I have also stayed at the Hotel Campo Dei Fiori (cute and small, like a 2 star) but noisy at night, and Albergo Del Sole at the CDF - like a 1 star, but clean and cheap. You can try them. I have never stayed at the Residenza Canali - if you do book there for end of September - remember to email me in mid September and I'll tell you what I thought. They have two "terrace" rooms at the top - and I booked both for our stay.

A central area Rome hotel w/ private bath and under 95Euro ($150US) is tough but not impossible.

I would contact all of these places as well.

The Hotel Parlamento is ideally located (between the Spanish Steps/Trident area and P. Navona) and they have a wide range of rooms at varying prices; I have not stayed here but did consider it a few years ago. They were very quick to answer my questions via e-mail. (We eventually got a great price at the Senato and so ended up there, instead)

From the research I did, it would be a good bet for you if you can snag a room in your price range; the website lists doubles from 90 - 190 Euro:

Hi nanauno,

We stayed at the Residenza Canali in April. We loved the hotel and especially the location, just steps from Piazza Navona.

Be aware, though, that there is no elevator, and the stairs are steep.

We were unable to reserve one of the two terrace rooms on the top floor. Our room (Number 4, I think) was quite small, with a view of a kitchen next door. (I'm not complaining--I actually thought it kind of charming).

Have a wonderful time in Rome!

Double rooms are 135-155 euros during the time you want. Realize converting to the American $ it would be over $200.00,but this would be in a very good location.
I have not stayed here,but if I could go back to Rome a 3rd trip I would definitely consider this one.

You might want to consider a convent. There are several in the historic center that meet your budget of approx. 90 Euro per night double.

We always stay at the Hotel Villa del Parco. It is not in the historical part of Rome. There is a bus a half a block away on the corner. It is a neighborhood with a supermarket, and a couple great neighborhood restaurants.

If you prepay it is much cheaper. We have prepaid for 3 nights in October. If you haven't found anything you might want to check it out.

Have you tried the Hotel in Parione? I stayed there in October 2006 and liked it--great location, small but nice rooms, even a simple little rooftop terrace with a view. I am not such a big fan of Hotel Navona, though my experience there was longer ago. I thought their website was misleading and didn't like my low-ceilinged, sunless room. Rates are much higher and the dollar much weaker than when I stayed there in 2002, so it wouldn't be on my list (though based on their website some of their rooms are inviting--just not the one I was in).

I will second the recommendation to stay in a convent/monastery. We stayed in one for 5 nights in May and apart from our location which I chose badly, it was a great decision. About 80 euros per night including breakfast (coffee and rolls). Spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Look for one that is run by an English speaking order - Irish or American probably. Our nuns were lovely but they were Italian and didn't speak a word of English. You don't have to be Catholic!!
