Guides in Iceland

We are going to be in Reykjavík in December for 5 nights hoping to see the northern lights. Looking for recommendations of tours to do as day trips from Reykjavík. Also any groups that take you out to see the northern lights? Restaurant recommendations also appreciated. Thanks!

Yestravel, I used Goecco for my Snaefellsnes daytrip from Reykjavik (super jeep winter itinerary) and really liked the guides a lot. Super jeeps aren't that comfortable though, so if comfort is key look at day trips from Reykjavik Excursions. They use large charter type buses (wifi available) and I used them for the Golden Circle and Northern Lights night from Reykjavik. You don't get the same level of guiding, and with way more people, but for those adventures it's not all that necessary.

I used Extreme Iceland for a 2 night trip to the South Coast, but I'd bet they have a good day trip line up from
Reykjavik. They're a happy medium using larger coaches but maxing around 15-20 per tour and I found the two guides we had to be very knowledgable and approachable.

Topping, hoping for some other suggestions. In following up on these suggestions, I think we are not interested in an adventure tour. We would prefer a mini bus as opposed to a big bus for the day tours. For the Northern lights, a bus is fine. Thanks for additional suggestions.

We just completed an 8 day private tour with Gateway to Iceland. Andres Hannesson was our ( excellent) guide. Recommend. www.gatewaytoiceland.is

If you like Indian food, check out Shalimar. Absolutely delicious!
