GRAPE HARVEST IN ITALY

Hello everyone,
My husband, son and I will be visiting Italy next year the last week of september and the first week of October, our plan is to stay 5 nights in Rome and 3 nights in Venice, in between would like to drive around the country side for a couple of days, can someone tell me exactly when and where does the grape harvest take place. I have seen it in Spain and would love to see it in Italy too.

thank you

um...er... I'm no expert but there is no "exact" date for the grape harvest.
It all depends on the weather and what the maker wants to accomplish...
how wet the weather is, how dry, if he's willing to risk letting the grapes stay on the vines a day or two or three longer to develop sugar...test
I think you were extraordinarily lucky to have witnessed one..

Yes I was very lucky, I know there isn't a specific date but I am not sure if it is anytime of the month of September or if it is at the end of september

I might not have the correct memory, but because of the severe heat they experienced a couple of summers ago, some makers harvested as early as August.

We were in Tuscany for 4 days in 2007 from September 29 to October 2 and were able to watch grapes harvested, crushed, and the juice pumped to the primary fermenters. We were able to do the same in Sept/Oct of 2005.
No exact date, and the harvest may continue for a couple of weeks as grapes in different areas mature at a different rate; same for different varieties.
The harvest takes place all over the countryside in Tuscany. Grapes are everywhere and it depends on the variety and maturity.
We visited Altesino winery in 2005 for a tour and tasting, and Poggio Antico in 2007 for a tour, tasting, and a 5 course gourmet meal. Fantastic. Both are near Montalcino.

I was in S. Tuscany in October, but the Vendemmia was yet to come where I stayed.

The exact date depends on weather and probably other factors unknown to me.

But after we were in Tuscany we traveled to Campania where I did get to help friends harvest their grapes so I did experience La vendemmia! After that I went to Puglia and helped (just for one day) with La raccolta (the olive harvest).
