Getting married in Italy next year!

Hello...

I am in the process of planning a wedding in Italy next year in September. I have researched several locations and have found the seaside locations most beautiful. So far we are interested in the following towns: Ravello, the Amalfi Coast, Venice, Santa Marghertia and Postiano. We also intend to honeymoon in Italy as well. We enjoy wine, hiking, water activities, dining and long walks. Since we have never been, we were hopeful that someone out there could provide some personal insight into narrowing down our location. We are not looking for a "WOW" wedding but rather a small, quaint, romanitic wedding. We would love to hear from anyone with any ideas or recommendations. Thank you.

Hi Whetseat, and congrats!

I got this website from a wonderful, sweet, regular poster here by the screen name of Statia. It may lead you to the right path:

Enjoy and keep us posted.

Best wishes, Tiff

We got married in Positano in 2004. It was great - romantic and just the two of us. If I can help answer questions, email me at [email protected]. Congrats!

Positano and Ravello are both on the Amalfi Coast; while Positano is on the water, Ravello is on a hill above Amalfi. The Amalfi Coast would suit all your honeymoon interests.

Santa Margherita Ligure is also on the water; it is very close to the Cinque Terre, which would also suit all your honeymoon interests.

Generally speaking, the Amalfi Coast is more upscale than the Cinque Terre.

Venice is also on the water, of course, but you would have to go to the Lakes region for your honeymoon, if you want to do hiking and walking.

I went to Amalfi coast on my honeymoon. I think Ravello would be an AMAZING place for a wedding. In fact there is a perfect chapel... can't remember the name but it is where the gardens/statues are...at the very tip with amazing view. Ask around and you can get the name.

Thinking about doing destination wedding in Italy as well. There would be out 10 people immediate family in attendance. WE want to get married on the Amalfi Coast and spend about 4 days there enjoying the area with our family. Afterwards we would leave our familes and travel to Rome for 5 more days for our honeymoon.

We are both extremely busy professionals and are looking for a website that might sell pkg weddings. Thining of soemthing at a villa or hotel on the water. We woudl want teh coordinator to do all the leg work for the paperwork tranlator etc and even plan the flowers music and the meal afterwards a the location for one set package price. (this would of course exclude the accomodation price and the honeymoon in Rome price).

We are jsut on the prelims of this and are very early in the thinking process, but does anyone know of such a website or pkg?

I could almost be convinced to get married if I could have a wedding at sunset in September in the gardens of the Villa Cimbrone in Ravello. (This is what I believe scout4 is referring to). Hint: you must love heights and have no vertigo.

The gardens are open to the public for a fee. I am not sure about the rules for getting married there. My guess is that if you book rooms or a reception at the hotel in the grounds of the gardens, this will go a long way toward helping you get married there or at least have a reception there. Take a look at http://www.villacimbrone.com

The Palazzo Sasso has a stunning view, but would have stunning prices for weddings, but do take a look at www.palazzosasso.com.

The Ristorante da Salvatore has wonderful views, if much more casual than the two hotels mentioned above, they might do weddings.
Via della Repubbliche 2,
Ravello, Italy
Phone: 089/857227
e-mail: [email protected]
http://www.salvatoreravello.com (has no pictures, they also have a hotel)

Another place to consider with a very good view would be the Villa Maria, take a look at http://www.villamaria.it/eng/albergo.asp.

Vila Rufolo, which is a private home next door to the Ristorante da Salvatore has concerts all summer, and may be available for weddings, take a look at http://www.rcs.amalficoast.it and see if there are any links to hiring part of the site for private parties or weddings.

The Hotel Caruso has been redone and I have not seen it but it is supposed to be quite beautiful and somewhat sleek and Aman-like. Take a look at http://www.hotelcaruso.com/web/orav/orav_a1a_splash.jsp

Finally, assuming you are US citizens, you should take a look at the website for the US Embassy in Rome, there is a section on US citizens getting married in Italy. The website is http://www.usembassy.it/ and the specific page you want is http://www.usembassy.it/cons/acs/marriage.htm. Quite a bit of documentation is necessary to get married in Italy, including documents which need to be translated into Italian.

If you don't love heights, consider getting married lower down along the coast. I would suggest the Santa Caterina hotel, take a look at hotelsantacaterina.it

I'm looking at getting married on the Amalfi Coast in 2007. Are you looking into wedding planners or are you going to do it all yourself?

I've been in touch with findmydestination.com wedding planners, based in Florida. They plan weddings all over the world and are reasonably priced.

Hey everyone
I'm also planning on getting married in Italy September 06 in POSITANO. I've been working with this planner Laura and she's been great. Here's their site <http://www.exclusiveitalyweddings.com>. I've also never been to Italy my family is from their so I feel it's a special place. We have been going over the whole wedding thing and came down to it's a reel waste of money and rather do it this way. If anyone has some tips about traveling about Italy it would be a great help.

thanks

I was married at the Villa Cimbrone in Italy in Oct 2002. It was amazing. I also worked with Laura (mentioned in the post above) and recommend her highly. If you have any questions you can contact me through my wedding web site (www.jodyandjake.com).

The Villa Cimbrone's Garden may be the most gorgeous place on the planet. I didn't even know about it, just stumbled on it as I rambled in ravello, and I could barely catch my breath. The Villa Maria in Ravello (not Santa Maria? I must be thinking of columbus!) is lovely.

Can anyone tell me if Amalfi is overrun and busy with tourists during the first week of September. We are planning a wedding in Amalfi sept.'07 and are concerned about crowds.
