I'm wondering if anyone has done a tour of Iceland with either Gate1travel or Globus and could share their opinions and experiences? They both have 8 day tours ... I'm thinking of summer '09.

Gate 1 has some real negative complaints with the BBB. Do an online search and you will find many complaints about Gate 1.Be careful, you usually get what you pay for. I have not ever traveled with them but I have taken 6 Globus tours including 1 rivercruise and I have always been very happy with them. No complaints at all.We do not do tours any longer as we prefer to now travel on our own.I have not been to Iceland.
I've never been to Iceland but recently booked my second Globus tour. I was very satisfied with the first tour -- excellent service, great accommodations, enthusiastic knowledgeable tour guide. Unfortunately, someone on the tour became ill. I was VERY IMPRESSED with the way Globus handled the situation.
Gate 1 has a lot of different hotels at different prices. I think many people go assuming hotels will match american standards (the cheap ones don't) and then make complaints that they didn't get what they expected.
I believe if you do in-depth research on the hotel selection you will find that only the more expensive choices would satisfy many american tourists.
I haven't been to Iceland but I loved my Gate1 tour of Israel. The hotels were very nice, our guide was great and I thought it was a great value for the money. I was so pleased I've booked a Turkey trip w/Gate1 and I'm leaving on Dec 3.
I've heard good things about Globus too but I've never used them.
