Galway for day trips

I've been to Galway, Connemara and other scenic areas several years ago. Thinking of a return visit for a few days early September. I use public transportation and like to book accommodation in places where there is a good bus route and train. I read that there is service from Galway to Ennis which passes Cliffs of Moher and Doolin. Have been to these areas before and consider them well worth return visit. I like historic places and enjoy hiking trails and photography. Any ideas and maybe there are new places I have not heard about? Also if anyone can recommend, or give me ideas on B&B or hotel that is in good location in Galway and walking distance to bus and train.

Many thanks to all.

Bus and train are off Eyre Sq in Galway so anywhere around there. B&B's on College Rd or Hotels on the Sq..

The Bus past the Cliffs is the 350 http://www.buseireann.ie/timetables/1477574876-350.pdf but if you only want 2 hours at the Cliffs (long enough) you need to study the schedule. Pat Sweeny does walks from Dollin to the Cliffs in the morning and back from the Cliffs early afternoon if you wanted a guided walk. I generally say the walk from Hags Head / Liscannor is a better option than from Doolin see http://www.thewanderblogger.com/hiki...-head-ireland/ There are always the tours but check Itineraries.. it was recently pointed out that the WAW tour doesn't call up by Poulnabrone Dolmen so if you want the wedge tomb consider a different one. But WAW tours are the only ones giving a 5 hr Cliffs option if you did want to hike the area.

Connemara? depends what you want? Both Buseirann and City Link serve Clifden but if you consider Inishboffin then City Link also serve Cleggan. Cycles including Electric versions are available in Clifden.

I will look at walking tour. We were in Doolin once and stayed near pier to get ferry to ARAN Is. which was a wonderful experience. We did some walking through farmland from the village area but did not get the same experience you describe in a guided walk. I did not want to pack hiking boots for use maybe once, do you think good walking shoes & socks are suitable? If I take the earlier bus from Galway to get to Cliffs will it be a problem getting into Doolin without a car? I might need to get B&B in Doolin and if the B&B we loved (think it was THE SEA BREEZE), and we could look at Cliffs from upstairs. So I could stay in Galway on arrival at hotel, relax and head off in morning to Doolin. On Sunday I will need to be near transportation to be close to airport.
I drove from Galway to Clifden years ago, stopping at Kylemore and also had a chance to visit Ashford Castle.

Any ideas on hotels in Galway that I might check? Will also look at Irishtourist site as I have found some places that look very nice. Your help is much appreciated, thanks.

Sensible, comfortable shoes are generally fine. I have seen pictures with all sorts of less than sensible footwear.

I don't rate Doolin for an overnight as I prefer to sit and chat to the locals in more than 2 pubs but it is a good point for the Inis Oirr and Cliffs Combi cruise.

Don't know your airports but if Shannon? Ennis generally gets my vote but without a car you might want to get to the Airport and the Park Inn.

Looking to book hotel in Galway on arrival. Not sure of area Liscanner/Hags Head, but will check to see where the bus would drop me off. If its on the bus route then that would be good and I might find B&B somewhere close enough to enjoy the area. I have been to the visitor center at Cliffs last time. I remember first visit walking up a field packed with goats before center opened. We stayed in Doolin to be on the early speed ferry and it was a good experience.
I always prefer meeting locals and avoid heavy tourist traps and learn quite a bit chatting. Thank you for your help.

Plan taking 2 day trips from Galway. If I arrive Galway early enough I can enjoy some sightseeing in city. Cliffs hike next day from Liscanner and see there is a bus stop return on late bus 20:30pm. Very interested in Galway/Westport bus which will be a nice route and might be able to stop at Kylemore to visit garden. Considering overnight in Westport to get early train next morning to make a bus connection in Athlone going north.

Thank you for taking the time to help with planning.
