Hi All,

I am Garima Kaushik. I am studying in Galgotias University Noida. Our University is planning to send their bright students to Europe for training purpose. I thought i should know the famous places there so can we can enjoy our trip. Can anyone please tell what are the famous places tin Europe? I want to make this trip unforgettable.

There are thousands of 'famous places' in Europe. No way to give you a useful list. Or do you mean specifically in Switzerland and are asking only about that country (per your tagging the thread for Switzerland)?

I am sure there are shops in India that sell very good guide books. I suggest you pick up a couple or go to your school's library and do some research.

How long do you have for this trip?

Is it official classes for some time and then time for travel?

By holidays do you mean christmas and New Year's? (Typically schools don;t hold classes then).

What sort of budget are you looking at (Switz is VERY expensive) and winter holidays are high season - as well as very cold and snowy.

You really need to provide a lot more info on number of days, number of students, type of budget - and yes, what types of sights you are interested in.

And weather- no place in europe has beach weather - but are you OK with full winter (ice, sleet, snow) or do you want more moderate temps (some southern places may have temps in the 50s during the day).

Thanks for reply guys! Yes we are planning to go in the mid of December. Our training will be in Manchester but i heard that Switzerland is very beautiful. May be we come after New year celebration. We are 15-20 students. I have no idea about the budget because our university is sponsoring the trip.

Well if the university is willing to pay for Switz (I'm amazed if it will) and you want to do winter sports then go for Switz. (Switz IS very beautiful in the summer - with alpine meadows with gorgeous wild flowers, cows with Heidi bells and alpen horns surrounding beautiful lakes lines with charing villages - and the alps in the distant background) But in Jan it is covered with snow, definitely cold (think highs of 30s farenheit, often below freezing, and mountains are still gorgeous - but not worth the money unless you are skiing, etc).

If you don;t want winter sports then I would visit a couple of major cities to see the world class historic sights, museums, art, architecture and get a feeling for the cultures.

BUT - a huge amount depends on 1) how many days you have for this travel and 2) what you want to do and see - and how much money the university is wiling to stump up. For instance, Spain and Portugal prices are perhaps half of those in Switz in ski season - plus have much more moderate temperatures.

Which city will be nearest to Manchester? Is Switzerland near or far from Manchester?

Strongly suggest you get a couple of guidebooks and a decent map of europe. The major tourist city nearest Manchester is London - unless you are flying.

You would have to fly to Switz or take a very tedious train journey (from M to Interlaken would take about 13 hours with 4 or more changes) - London is only a couple of hours from M by train.

And what will you do in Switz at that time of year if not winter sports?

city of touristic interest - Liverpool for one is close as is Blackpool - I suggest Blackpool for fun for your age group and it's just a short train ride away.
