French Train Station Lockers
Luggage lockers have been closed in most train stations in France in accordance with the Vigipirate anti-terrorism law enacted several years ago after domestic terrorist bombings in the metro i believe - the same rules have eliminated rubbish bins from most stations and public places - replaced often by cardboard box tops laying on the floor.
Anyway in several main stations lockers are openm daily 6:30am-11pm and usually allow luggage to be left for up to 72 hours (48hrs at Gare du Nord)
Autmatic luggage lockers with X-ray scanners:
Paris - Austerlitz, Gare de Lyon, montparnasse, Gare du Nord, Marne-la-Vallee-Chessy
Avignon
Nantes
Angers
Bordeaux
Toulouse
Marseille
manual lockers with X-ray scanners:
nancy
Strasbourg
Dijon
Lyon Part-Dieu and Perrace.
fees: small locker - 3.5 euro
medium 5 euro
large 7.5 euro
Noticeably absent is Nice-Ville station, perhaps the most main station in Europe without any left luggage facilities it seems!

PalQ, what is the source of that information? It doesn't match SNCF's information on each station, in particular, SNCF's Guide du Voyageur-Gare Mode d'Emploi says Nice-Ville gare has these kind of luggage facilities for "bagages" (with the note, of course, that "Les services bagages sont susceptibles d'être neutralisés, sur décision préfectorale, en application du plan Vigipirate":
Lundi à samedi de 8h20 à 12h00 et de 14h00 à 17h00
• services bagagistes
• porteurs
• dépôt
• retrait de bagages
• consigne manuelle
• consigne automatique
I'm sure you know with consigne means, and those days are Mon-Sat. 8:20-12 and 2-5 pm.
I imagine if Nice was left out of that, others could be also, I would just imagine other train stations had them. Valence TGV does, for example, and it's not on that list, either.

Christina: the list comes from RailEurope update sheet and presumably they get it from the SNCF since SNCF is the majority stakeholder in RailEurope. I mainly present it for stations that definitely maybe have lockers available and don't know if it's complete but the source should be good. I was in Nice last year and there was definitely no left-luggage in the station at that time - i asked and said no it had been closed. I think it may have been a problem of little room in that congested station, but there may be one for all i know - and in Valence too but i personally wouldn't bank on it, or any on the list being opened as things can change quickly. After the Madrid bombings SNCF closed off luggage racks instantly almost at ends of cars - actually after bombs were found on SNCF tracks in the days after Madrid - but they reopened them. Now they require that all bags be tagged with id tags, but on TGVs i rode last Sep many bags were not so tagged. Would seem like the SNCF web site would be reliable, if it's updated - Raileurope missive was issued Aug 7, 2005. Best info i have and now yours. But again Nice definitely did not have them the day i was there and it was not a Sunday so even SNCF could have inaccurate info - or there could be lockers there now.
Anyone been to Nice-Ville station recently and seen or used consignes?

Re-reading the RailEurope note it says lockers will be available at these stations. It doesn't say they won't be available at other stations - it implies that but doesn't say that. Valence TGV would seem to warrant one as would Avignon TGV - it just says Avignon - like it's the old Avignon station but not clear.
