Edinburgh-is a week enough?
Hi there!
I'm thinking of travelling either to Edinburgh (preferably) or Budapest by the end of October.
1.Is a week enough for Edinburgh?
2.Is it better to stay in the centre or in a suburb?
3.Any good idea for a B&B place (clean & nice)?
4.Any ideas for some daytrips maybe?
Thanks for your help!

1. Yes - unless you plan to make a lot of day trips. Edinburgh is a fairly compact city and its most interesting features can be seen in about 3-4 days but a week would be really nice.
2 & 3. It really depends on if money is a factor. B&Bs that are right downtown are more expensive. We stayed at a B&B that was only a 15 minute bus ride from the centre of the city. It was beautifully located right on the Firth of Forth - lovely views. It was clean and friendly and very nice - good breakfasts. The bus stop was about a 5 minute walk and buses were VERY frequent - the longest we waited was 10 minutes. The hosts are VERY helpful and will give you all kinds of useful info. Website is:

4. We took one day-trip (by car) - we drove east of Joppa along the coast and saw castles (like Tantallon) and pretty seashore towns.
Edinburgh really is a lovely, interesting city - you will love it.

Yes, I have been to both Edinburgh and Budapest. A week is definately long enough for Edinburgh. Maybe too long. Budapest has a very different culture and is probably worth spending a week to experience it.

As far as Edinburgh goes (haven't been to Budapest-pretty far down on my list )
we stayed at B&B's both near the city centre (5-10 min walk) and in a suburb that required a bus ride. Although the bus system is great, we MUCH preferred being able to walk to the city centre. Would never stay on the outskirts again.

Hi Tereza, I'm more fascinated by the fact that you live in Athens, you lucky person.
However, I loved Edinburgh and don't think a week is too long but you should break it up by also going to St Andrews and the coast up from Dundee to Arbroath which is most attractive.
As for B & B's, there are many and there is a tourist office on the main street Princes St.which will book you into one of their listings. Some of the smaller ones are in the suburbs but an easy bus ride from the centre. Look at
aboutscotland.com - there many listed there.

Hi Tereza,
I just returned from Edinburgh last week.
1. One week is definately enough to see everything. Infact, you should plan to drive around and see some of the other places.
2 & 3. Edinburgh is a fairly small city and living in the suburbs is not too bad and obviously the prices are lower. I stayed in 2 B&B's near London Road. Cost - approx 20 pounds per person per night. Head to the Information Center off Prince's St and for a 3 pound charge, they'll find you a place to stay
4. You should plan to rent and car and drive towards Fort William and Glen Coe...the views are amazing....visit some distilleries
Have fun!
