Im leaving for Budapest at the end of this week and have been reading about the protests. It seems the protests are centered around the Parliament area. Any insight on how this affecting tours of the parliament or enjoying the surrounding areas? I have been to Budapest Sun and a bunch of other websites, but there isn't much information. I called my hotel in Budapest and they said "everything is fine and that protests are very common at the parliament". I don't think that 3,000 people and a 100 police officers is the common occurrence (even if the violence was initiated by a small group of the protesters).

I am in a similar position, and share your concern. Hopefully, someone will give us some answers here - perhaps someone who is currently in Budapest.

I was very sad to see this on the news today as I was there 1 1/2 weeks ago. It's a beautiful city and hopefully things will calm down. If it makes you feel better my aunt who is from there leaves NYC next week for a 2 week stay in Budapest and doesn't seem concerned.

I'll be in Budapest at the end of October. It should be interesting to experience Revolution Day.

I live in Budapest, very close to the Parliament building and the areas where the problems are taking place. The violence that took place over the past couple of nights was restricted to quite a small area, such as the square where the Hungarian Television building is located and the HQ of the Socialist Party. The situation does seem to be improving and there was little violence last night. Obviously it's advisable to stay away from the places where the demonstrators are gathering. The events of the past days only happened after midnight and were restricted to the places mentioned. Apart from that, Budapest is its usual peaceful self and enjoying some really fine sunshine at this time. Have a pleasant stay.
