Have a look at local ferries as there are some good trips out as well
The bus schedule is often such that you cannot get away and back on the same day. There are, however, boat trips to Cavtat as well as nearby islands.
Yorkshire Yep i,m just looking at a LP
guide that has Mostar 3hr bus from Dubrovnik
Still going there ,just get accomodation there
for a night
fossil41--I would definitely advise staying overnight in Mostar. It is much less crowded and more pleasant in the mornings and evenings. Also cooler if you are going in the summer when it is very hot mid-day.
We enjoyed seeing Ston on the Pelješac peninsula. I know there are buses that stop there. Also some tours of the peninsula.
There are frequent buses and water taxis also to Cavtat mentioned farther up the thread.
This site describes some of the islands you can visit easily
