If you can't be arsed spelling properly, why should any of us go out of our way to help you?

What the hell does spelling right or actually typing right as they were typos have to do with helping anyone?

An unfair judgmental response IMO and an surprised with flimfanneur's haughty attitude

Can't comment on spelling (well, I could, but I won't), but regarding the relative costs of trains vrs. rental cars in the UK. I've seen comparisons that indicate train is less expensive for 1-2 people; rental car better for 3-4 (but don't get a car that won't fit 4 plus luggage).

Train passes may be an option too, depending upon the number of trips over what period of time.

OK may not be a troll - i did not say you were - so will give some attention to the train part. www.nationalrail.co.uk is a site giving prices for all passenger trains in the U.K. and you will find they are often Byzantine in pricing - lots of different prices and about 28 independent rail lines that compete on some routes with each other - so-called Privitization of the 90s that did away with old British Rail, a national rail system like most European countries still have.

Thus fully flexible walk up tickets can be extremely high yet if you book in advance online you may pay a fraction of the full fare - but will be locked into a certain train at a certain time on a certain rail franchise, etc.

The beauty of a BritRail England pass is that you can use it anytime on any train in England - just hop on. Total flexibility. And on your cross-country routes perhaps involving more than one rail franchise could stack up well even with discounted tickets. (Very hard to tell unless you actually search on www.nationalrail.co.uk.)

But do investigate the BritRail England Pass - not sold at British train stations as Brits cannot use them. I always refer two sites for giving tons of objective info on British trains and not just pass prices and an add to cart option- www.ricksteves.com (he also covers bus and plane options) and www.budgeteuropetravel.com - both sites have lots of useful info besides their commercial aspects.

You have asked and received answers about at least Tenby, Dublin, Swansea, Cardiff, Halifax, Manchester, York, day trips to London, and now Bath. Maybe let us know which you are still considering.

How long is your trip in total? Where are you flying in/out of? Do you plan on staying the whole time w/ your friend who lives in Halifax?

It is sort of hard to give useful advice when you have so many different plans floating about . . . . .

Get a map of England and southern Scotchland. Find Halifax on it.

Now find Bath. Not very possible is it?

Lots of places near Halifax. Visit those.

CW until I read your post I was way up on my high horse, hanleyster has started many posts and ignored the responses.

You made me smile and realise that it's really not worth it - I DO have a life.

As you know I am a 'Northern Monkey' This is my local ground but hanleyster can fend for himself - I DO hope that he enjoys the Golden Fleece in Greetland
