Denmark Itinerary Review

Hi all!

My wife and I had been planning to take a trip in mid-October... our normal vacation block. This was going to give me plenty of time to plan. Unfortunately, we've had a job situation change and need to get our vacation out of the way in early September.

We're experienced travelers, love the outdoors (day hikes, etc.), and like smaller hotels/b&b's/etc. Over the past few years, we've been to Norway and Iceland and loved both. Given some relatively cheap plane fares to Copenhagen, we're looking at going to Denmark... likely the redeye out on a Friday with a return the following Sunday... so 8 nights in total.

Here's my preliminary plan:

Day 1 - Arrive early in the AM. Head out towards Mons via Dragor and Koge. Stay Stege/Mons.

Day 2 - Head out from the Mons area towards Aero (should we head north and back around or thru Lolland and across the ferry from Tars and then the ferry to Aero?). Stay Aero.

Day 3 - Explore Aero. Stay Aero.

Day 4 - Head out from Aero. Thinking of staying for two nights in the area of Ribe. Should we head north thru Kolding or around through Sonderborg? Stay Ribe.

Day 5 - Explore Ribe, Fano, etc.

Day 6 - Head from Ribe to Odense. Explore Odense. Stay Odense.

Day 7 - Head from Odense to Copenhagen via Eoakilsw/Hillerod/Helsingor. Stat Copenhagen.

Day 8 - Copenhagen.

Day 9 - Depart in the AM.

Please let me know your thoughts.... places to stay, off the beaten path adventures, restaurants, whatever!

Thanks in advance!

Alan: One suggestion...from the Hillerod/Helsingors segment, en route to Copenhagen, you may want to visit Humlebaek on the Oresund coast and its renowned Louisiana Museum of Modern Art. Very enjoyable visit, unique setting in many respects, good spot for lunch within the museum. Considering the type of lodgings you like, I hesitate to suggest looking into Ibsen's Hotel...may be a little too large for your tastes, but perhaps not. Good location, walking distance to the Strog(y)et. Easy parking for the car. We enjoyed it and have recommended it a few times to friends and family.

Tower,

Thanks for the suggestions... I'll definitely take a look into them.

I actually had a discount for the Clarion Mayfair in Copenhagen, so decided to go with it. We'll be staying in smaller places throughout the rest of our trip.

Thanks!
