Hello fodor's people... I am arriving de-Gaulle on a Monday morning. Will stay 2 blocks from CHAMP De MARS - 19 Rue du Gros Caillou, Inválidos - 7º distrito, 450 meters from ECOLE MILITAIRE.
Which is the fastest and cheapest way to get there??. I am taking only a carry-on. Can walk.
Would take the Metro but never been in Paris, don't know if it is easy or not.

Take the RER line towards Paris, getting off at Gare du Nord. Change there to Metro Line 4 towards Porte d'Orleans, getting off at Strasbourg St-Denis. Change there to Metro Line 8 towards Balard, getting off at Ecole Militaire.

Make sure you check a map since you will be walking to rue Gros Caillou from the metro stop - it's maybe a 10 min walk. I've stayed in a hotel on that street and it's a tiny little rue!

You might also check out easybus which runs from CDG to Palais Royale Musee du Louvre metro stop and is really inexpensive if you pre-book. From the stop in Paris there is the 69 bus that runs right there (take the direction called Champs de Mars)and get off at the stop called SAINT-PIERRE DU GROS CAILLOU and then walk (about 5 minutes). Alternately, you can even walk from the Palais Royale stop where easybus stops-it is 2 miles if you feel like stretching your legs

Yes, use the Ecole Militaire metro stop. It's a nice walk to Rue Gros Caillou passing by shops, cafes, etc.

Roissy Bus to Opera and Metro line 8 direction Balard and get off at Ecole Militaire to walk from there will work as well.

Another fast and very easy (only one connection) way is RER B to St Michel-Notre Dame...then RER C to Pont de l'Alma...then 10 minute walk south.

Rather than dragging your suitcases over three changes of trains and a long walk take a taxi. Worth it.

The only tricky thing about changing from line B to line C is to be sure you are going in the right direction on line C.

The signs should list all the stations on a particular line (as well as the overhead TV screens on the platforms)

Just look for your stop -- Pont de l'Alma -- and you'll be fine. They run very frequently, so take your time to read the signs/video screens before boarding.

Note that even though there are several "flavors" of line C that split up towards various suburban points, all the westbound lines stop at the same stations (including Pont de l'Alma) until after Champ de Mars/Tour Eiffel. As long as you're going in the right direction, you can't miss your stop.

With only a carry-on bag, the RER/Metro system will not be a problem.

If you're going to have a smart cell phone to use while in Paris, I'd recommend downloading Citymapper. It is an app for all things transportation related inside Paris (it has other cities too) and surrounds.

Hi all of you..!
Cheapest bus De Gaulle to Louvre...(nearest to Eiffel) was Easy Bus for 7 Euros..took it outside the airport where all the suttles go by..we were only 2 on the van..and left us at the Louvre!..
from there I WALKED to the hotel..abt 1 hour to champs de marz..ave de la Bourdonnais,so I tated ny walking sightseeing the same day I arrived!

I only walked around Paris..only bus was the 87 half block from hotel which took me in 15 mins to Place St Michel!... no need of Metro..buses are great and u can pay cash.!no need of prepaid tickets.!
the 3 recommened busese wer that 87, 69 and 42 which took me to Gard duNord for 2 euros!..thanks everbody ronz, ssander, apersuader, rjd,jpie, whathello
As for telephones I charged my skype with 10 dollars and only used 5 usd in all the 15 days!...to make local phone calls..
Found Paris very easy to move around, to eat and to everything..I fell in love with Paris... going back next years...cheers

If you are going to be staying for a few days, you should look into getting the Navigo pass when you arrive at CDG. Go to the train station, and look for a manned ticket booth as you'll need to purchase the actual card first. Bring a passport-style photo, as this needs to go on the card. Once you have the card, which costs about €5, go to the self-service kiosks and charge it for the week. You can get a 5-zone pass now for €21.25, which will cover your ride on the RER from CDG to Paris (formerly €8) AND back when you leave (if you're leaving before Sunday midnight) plus unlimited Metro and RER (within zones 1-5) and bus transit all week long.

Hit the ATM machine first and get cash, unless you have a Euro-style chip-and-pin card. American chip-and-signature and mag-stripe cards won't work in the kiosks that take cards. All of them take Euro cash. (Confusingly, some only accept coins, though more accept bills now.) Even better, find someone at home who has a few euros they'll sell you, and hit an ATM at a bank after you get into the city.

Hi jpie..I am with you..prefer the bus..loved it...Thank you also iamginaryjazz... I took the easybus. degaulle to louvre and then walked.. I took regular bus 87 that took me in 10mins toplace st michel..and then I did everything walking .took the bus 42 to go to Garde du Nord..it took only 20mins.. and 2 euros... I am now planning for next year...thanks to you all...

PS I dont use ATM..I carry cash and go changing as I need.. no problem at all with that..dont like using plastic just credit for purchases that are not food!
