Using the Paris metro from our hotel to train stations
While in Paris we will be staying at the Hotel Henri IV Rive Gauche, 9-11 rue St Jacques. We will take two day trips using the train. My question is can we easily take the metro from our hotel to Gare St Lazare and Gare de l'Est?

Yes, the Metro runs through that area. Look up schedules on http://www.ratp.fr

Thanks for the info, but now I am having difficulty understanding the route map from www.ratp. Going from Saint-Michel to Gare de l'Est, is it telling me to take the train in the direction or Porte de Clignancourt and to depart at Porte de Orleans and then take another train to Gare de l'Est (Verdun)?

Susan...
RER line B stops at Gare du Nord not at Gare de l'est (they are about 3 or 4 blocks apart)...you could take the RER line B as suggested to gare du nord and then switch to metro line 4 to gare de l'est but the info on the metro map is correct...take the #4 line to gare de l'est station.
