Day trip to Capri from Sorrento-Itinerary advice?

Jump to last reply

Looking for advice. We are a family of 4 (2 active boys ages 10 and 12) spending 3 days in Sorrento and planning a day trip to Capri in mid-July. (I know, crazy time to go!)

I have picked up lots of tips from this site. Will buy early (return) tickets the day before for the fast ferry or hydrofoil.

I would like to do a 3 hour around the island boat tour and will book this beforehand. Will decide if to skip Blue Grotto in lieu of smaller and hopefully less crowded ones on the actual day and advice of the guide. The boys will want to swim and snorkel a bit if possible. I'd like to see the Faraglionni and Natural Arch from the water if possible. We would grab sandwiches for the boat from the Marina.

The rest of the day would be spent on the island. My tentative plan is to take the bus to Anacapri and ride the chair lift to the top. Undecided about ride or hike down. Would get back to Capri (bus? walk?) and then walk to the Augustus Gardens and hopefully down the Via Krupp to the Marina Piccola. Maybe a dip (though no sun at that time) and then bus back to Capri and funnicular to the Marina.

Does this seem doable? Considering the crowds, would it be better to reverse the order and tour the island in the am and the boat tour in the afternoon? There seems like so much to do but we have only 1 day.

Thanks for any advice!
