d'aubusson or pavillion de la reine?

Hi,

I am taking my daughter on a last minute trip to Paris next week. We enjoy walking but convenience to museums and metro in case of showers. We like a comfortable and most important, quiet room. The price is about the same. Thanks for any thoughts.

Bonnie

Bonnie,

I can only respond regarding D'Aubusson. It is located on a quiet side street in St. Germain. It was steps away from the water and not too far from public transport. I believe we had a room that was one class up from the smallest room. The room and bathroom were both quite large for city standards (which is the equivalent of a regular old room in the US).

Our room faced the street and I don't recall there being a lot of noise, but if you really wanted to ensure quiet, request a room on a higher floor facing the courtyard.

The little fireplace area and the bar downstairs are charming and lovely.

Enjoy.

The PdlR is located in a building which makes up the periphery of the Place des Vosges and it is a very quiet hotel. You enter through a doorway into the courtyard in front of the hotel so the place sits back from the Place des Vosges itself. We did not stay in one of the larger rooms and the one we had wasn't all that big..adequate enough. Bathroom had lots of marble; staff members were friendly and helpful throughout. Buffet breakfast is served in what I felt was a somewhat non-descript subterranean space, no windows, but orientals on the floor!

Easy walk (couple of blocks) to the Bastille metro stop.

I would probably stay there again even though the place is pricey; service was wonderful and if you want to be in the Marais it is hard to beat.

If proximity to museums is an issue, the Aubusson is closer to the Orsay and Louvre than is the Pavillion de la Reine, which is closer to the Picasso and Carnavalet.

They are both about 2-3 blocks from the nearest metro station.

Some of the cheaper rooms at the PDLR overlook the street in the back. They can be quite noisy; also, the metro is not that close. The area is superb, with great shopping and a truer feel of Paris w/o the tackiness of the 5th and 6th arr.. Close call....

The rooms (where we have always been)at the front are quiet..cannot speak to the cheaper(?) ones in the back but the hotel is located in a residential neighborhood for the most part.
