Convent lodging in Rome

We are two females needing one night's lodging in Rome the night before our flight back to the states. Hotel prices seem very expensive. We are considering a convent stay as an alternative. We will arrive in Rome on Friday afternoon. We just need something clean and in a plesant area so we can enjoy our last few hours in Italy. Would prefer something more cntrally located as we will take the train to the airport the next morning. Does anyone have any experience to share? And how do you go about booking such accommodations? Thanks.

Here are the listings from the American Catholic church in Rome. You can get others by using google or consult Bed and Blessings book.

If you are flying from Fiumicino Airport, you will take Leonardo Express from Roma Termini Station so you may prefer staying close to it.
Hotel Serena,Hotel Assisi and Hotel Marconi are the ones we tried and found clean, safe and comfortable.
You'd better try finding a hotel using the booking.com
www.booking.com

have a nice time in Italy

I've heard convents are required to have a minimum of two nights, but don't know if it's true. I've stayed at Santa Sofia which is one metro stop from Termini. They are a few minutes walk from the forum. It's very basic, plain breakfast and free wi-fi in the lobby.

Some convents want a deposit and don't take credit cards so ask for a wire transfer. That is expensive for such a small amount of money so it negates any savings.

I stayed at a convent in Pisa a number of years ago and it was lovely. Pretty much felt like a regular hotel. Only provision was you needed to be back in your room by a certain time (maybe 11 pm) which was not an issue for me. Go and enjoy!

It appears Santa Sofia will let you stay one night and they now take credit cards, but offer a discount for cash.

You can see the Colosseum from their piazza, but the Forum is actually closer. If you decide to book with them, ask for an interior room as there is a cafe on the piazza that is quite popular (and noisy) at night.

Short walk from Termini.

No carry on with deposit. View of Rome from rooftop. Gratifying breakfast.
