Cenobio dei Doge or Excelsior in Rapallo

I have been reading many post about hotels in the Italian Riviera.Cenobio dei doge sounds wonderful.I could get two double rooms without seaview for a hefty price. At the Excelsior in Rapallo I can get partial seaview rooms for 100.00 less than Cenobio. I have also read on the posts that VIS a Vis is a nice hotel. If you don't know, we are a family of four traveling around Italy and Greece. We will be staying in the Italian Riviera for 4 nights in August. What does everyone think of these hotels?Thank you

anamaria,

We have stayed at Cenobio several times and really enjoyed it...the setting is wonderful, right on the water....if the room doesn't have sea view, the terrace, nearby to the pool, will more than make up for that...a perfect place to sit and watch the sun come down while your drink is brought to you from the bar...Camogli is a sleepy little town..I guess it depends if you prefer Rapallo or Camogli!!

Traviata, We have never been to either. My husband 20 years ago and before me had clients in Portofino. He knows Portofino...20 years ago. When I look at the whole trip, Venice, Milan ,Italian Riviera,Athens,Santorini and Mykynos,Cenobio is the most expensive of all the hotels. We are staying in 4 star hotels throughout the trip. The Excelsior was 532.00(dbl) and Cenobio was 632.00 a night.

anamaria,

We have never, in all our stays, paid anywhere near that amount...we have stayed off season, in late October, but our rooms have been in the range of E200....is that per room, without sea view??I can't imagine such a huge difference..was this price quoted by phone??

anamaria,

I just checked ItalyBy.com and they post rates for this hotel at Euro203 for a double room, garden view, high season....you may want to check further on that price...I have always booked directly with the hotel, so I do not know this website, but it claims 2006 rates.
