Car rental agencies near train station in Siena, italy

Hi, we're traveling to Siena by train, and want to rent a car when we arrive in the Siena train station. The website www.autoeurope.com offers decent rates, but I can't figure out where their car rental agency is in relation to the train station, Santa Maria Novella, which is on Via Carlo Rosselli. The autoeurope website lists two locations for their cars in Siena: one is at 23/25 VialeEEuropa, or 36 Via Simone Martini. Any idea if either of these locations are within walking distance of the train station?

Thanks for any help!

Beth

Perhaps someone will answer, but in the meantime you can plot them on maps.goggle.com to find out.

The Viale Europa location seems to be about 3.8 km from the station at Piazza Carlo Rosselli.

The Via Simone Martini location is about 1.5 km.

I'm picking up my rental car in Siena on May 23rd and booked through AutoEurope. I did some searching and found that this post on TripAdvisor:

"The Hertz office is within sight of the train station. Just walk out the back of the station, opposite the tracks, and the Hertz office is just across the street, maybe 5 minute walk or less."

http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic...a_Tuscany.html

But I also found a post here on Fodors that says although the Hertz is less than 300 meters from the train station, its a 5 minute walk up a steep hill. If you have a lot of luggage you could take a taxi from the station.

BTW, the train station is Florence is Santa Maria Novella. I'm not sure if the Siena train station has another name...

Also, I just realized that the Hertz I booked through AutoEurope is located at Viale Sardegna 37, which is not one of the 2 locations you mentioned in your post. Maybe they have more locations if you call?

The representatives I've spoken with at AutoEurope have been really helpful, so it may be worth the call.

ellenem typoed www.maps.google.com. Her typo leads to a problematic site, so don't click on the link.

sorry about that typo. However, in the next post I plotted the two addresses at the correct site, maps.google.com, and listed the results.

(The train station in Florence is called "Firenze Santa Maria Novella" (or Firenze SMN) because it is near a church of that name and Florence has multiple stations. For Siena, the station is called "Siena.")

Also check with autoeurope's sister company, kemwel.com. They may have a listing near the train station. I have also found that rates on kemwel are sometimes less than the rates on autoeurope. Be sure to look at deductibles- "no excess" means no deductible. Call both to get help if still confused.

The Hertz office is not within site of the train station in Siena. It's not even within site once you walk up the steep hill (to the left as leaving the station), cross the very busy road at the roundabout and head down the hill. It's far enough that you will be wondering if you are even headed in the right direction. It will be on the right. There is no way you can see it from the station or from the top of the hill. The person quoted on the TA link seems to be guessing about both Hertz and Avis (actually says "I think" about Avis in the post).

FWIW - With Autoeurope you have to match companies for pick up and drop off (Hertz location to other Hertz location or Avis to Avis) or they will show no cars available. If you select a Hertz address in Florence for pick up and an Avis drop off in Siena it will show no cars available.

You can look up locations on Hertz, but it's not user friendly (no back buttons) so you have to keep starting over.

Avis

They use a few other companies also.
