Canadian buying German Rail Pass
Greetings. Can anyone tell me the most economical way for a Canadian to purchase a German rail pass? I have checked my route at railsaver.com and their advice is to buy a pass. I will also be traveling to Prague on this journey. Thanks.

From Die Bahn's website, you can buy a 5-day or 10-day pass at the Frankfurt airport after your arrival to Germany.
< Outside Europe the GermanRail Pass offer is available through travel agents with rail sales. You also can buy the German Rail pass (5 or 10 days passes, prices are calculated in Euro) at selected train stations in Germany (Aid Offices), for example at the airport in Frankfurt. >

I order from the internet:
check out either www.railpass.com
or www.raileurope.com .
The German pass is (2nd class) individual $180 (US) for any four days of travel within a month, and $24 per day for each extra day.
If you will be travelling with a buddy at all times, check out the twinpass--it may save you a few bucks, but you each cannot travel independently, as it is ONE pass.
The product is the same, whever you buy it, but the shipping fee is $10-20.

I have purchased German railpasses from this company before with no shipping charge (shipping is FREE to US and to Canada, according to website):
http://www.eurorailways.com/
Also... what is your route, how many traveling, when? Germany is one of those countries that is ripe with rail deals that are not always considered by railsaver when figuring your total (they usually look only at full-fare options when comparing point-to-point tickets with railpasses.) Share your itinerary info and you may get some good advice here.

I never knew about the eurorailways site!
However, upon closer inspection, although 3 day Fedex Saver Shipping charges are free, there is a $10 "Handling fee" for any order less than $250 total (mine comes to $228).
So its a $5 saving in the end.....

Thanks for replies folks. I am arriving at Frankfurt September 22; from airport catching train immediately to Nurnberg, staying in Nurnberg 3 nts; then by train to Prague, staying 4 nts; then by train Prague to Berlin for 6 nts; then train Berlin to Munich, staying 7 nts and flying home from Munich. I will be taking some side day trips, not finalized yet, e.g. Nurnberg-Wurzburg, Berlin-Leipzig, Munich-Garmisch, Berchtesgaden.
I am travelling alone, 63 yrs old, and wish to travel in first class. I am considering getting a German rail pass for 10 trips. I have done some checking, and I think because I want to travel in 1st class that precludes me from getting any of the bargains I've seen. I'm certainly open to any suggestions though.
