German Rail Twin Pass
We will be in Germany during May-June, and wish to purchase a Twin Pass (5 Days in One Month). The D-Bahn web-site has this pass for €380 (First Class) but it does not seem possible to buy it on-line. Buying this pass from the agency in Australia costs €455. Am I able to buy this pass on arrival at Frankfurt Airport, and, if so, does it cost €380, or is there some surcharge?

Hi A,
You can buy your passes on line at www.raileurope.com for about 390E for 2 plus shipping to Australia.

PS,
Before buying railpasses, enter your itinerary at www.railsaver.com and click "only if it saves money".
Also look for discount fares at www.bahn.de.

Thanks Ira: However the total cost of buying on-line from 'raileurope' turns out to be €438, €58 more expensive than the on-line price quoted on the D-Bahn site. What I really need to know is if anyone knows HOW to buy such a pass on-line from D-Bahn.

www.ricksteves.com and www.eurorailways.com list the 5-day 1st class Germanrail Twinpass at $257 US each, which doubled is just about 380 Euros. Can you not order it from one of them instead?

Thanks Russ: Just tried that and the total cost comes out at €425. Cheaper than I can get it in Australia, but still €45 more expensive than the listed price. To no-one's surprise, I'd rather pay the listed D-Bahn price if possible.

I bought a GermanRail pass about 15 years ago at Frankfurt Hbf, which surely is still one of the "select major train stations" where the pass can be purchased.
I just searched the bahn website and found that it's also available at FRA:
"Outside Europe the GermanRail Pass offer is available through travel agents with rail sales. You also can buy the German Rail pass (5 or 10 days passes, prices are calculated in Euro) at selected train stations in Germany (Aid Offices), for example at the airport in Frankfurt."
You should be able to get it there and at that price unless prices change. Prices always include VAT, to my knowledge.
I don't see anything on the site to indicate that the pass can be bought online.
