I really want to stay near Campo dei Fiori when in Rome in a few weeks. My first choice hotel, Hotel Smeraldo, is full. They refered me to Hotel In Parione. http://www.romeguide.it/FILES/h_inparione/inparione.htm I can't find any reviews on this place. Has anyone heard of it, or stayed there? Any other suggestions?

Why not stay IN the Campo dei Fiori? I recommend either the Hotel Campo dei Fiori (100 euros for a double room) or L'Albergo Della Lunetta (100 euros for a double). I have stayed in both properties numerous times...I rather liked the Hotel Campo Dei Fiori because breakfast is included in the rate.

You can also rent an apartment in the area. I've done that and it worked out great. Its the same cost or cheaper than a hotel. Try venere.com for a list of them. They also have B&B's.

Keep in mind that the Campo dei Fiori area can get pretty loud at night. Very popular place with teenagers.

I'd also suggest checking out an apartment, particularly www.palazzo-olivia.it
It is a little over a block from Campo Fiori, and the same from Piazza Navonna. They do not require a full week like most apartments. A really nice place!!

There was a recent article - I think in the New York Times - about the problems with noise in the evening and late at night in Campo dei Fiore. The article indicated that it was quite an issue with those trying to sleep in nearby hotels. Sorry I can't be more specific.

Use the search function (at the top of the screen) to find my post about the Campo dei Fiori and the Hotel Smeraldo. I loved Rome, but would NOT stay near the Campo again (L-O-U-D!!!), and I am hesitant to recommend the Hotel dei Fiori. Good luck!

I also have stayed at the Palazzo Olivia, right down the street from the Campo dei Fiori, it is a wonderful place!

I think mamc makes a good point. When we were in Rome, we were dinner guests of some locals. After our meal we were strolling and they took us to the lively Campo di Fiori--flower market by day and the gathering place of young Romans at night. They told us that the partying goes on there till 4am or so on the week-ends--not sure about week nights. It was a great sight to behold but I don't know how charming it would seem if you were trying to sleep through it!!

It is very loud at night and very early in the morning when the cleaning crews arrive. I liked the Hotel Campo de Fiori, the view from the roof, and the staff. It was fun at the time, but would not stay there again either because of the noise. This was five years ago so it may have changed.

If you request a room on the 2nd or 3rd floor of the Hotel Campo dei Fiori, you can avoid nearly all the noise from the adjoining area. I was there 10 months ago and my (then) 3 year old and I were initially put into a room near the top of the building, by the terrace. There was indeed noise until 2:30 am; however, the 2nd day we requested a quieter room and were moved down to another double on the 2nd floor, where we both slept fine.

My other suggestion, Albergo della Lunetta, is a little further away from the immediate area, so not in the middle of all the action. That might be preferred.

Thank you all. The Albergo Della Lunetta looks great, and they have room available. I?m not too concerned about the noise if I can be part of the late night revelry!

In that case, I say go for it!! The late night revelry there looked like the most fun in the world for someone young!!

I'm not so sure the late nights would be so bad on the Campo if you liked to join in, but the problem is that at about 5 AM, all hell breaks loose as they set up the daily market -- even noisier than the nightime revelry.

Patrick, so the apartment you recommended is not noisy? I am not too familiar with the major sites and their realtionship to different neighborhoods so is this a good location from which to walk to many sites? Thanks for your help.

I have an apartment reserved at the Palazzo-Oliva at the end of next month. I hope it is as good as everything I've read.

As mentioned, the Albergo della Lunetta is around the corner from the Campo Dei Fiori and not right in the middle of the market set up and noise. Indeed, there are booths/stalls set up outside near the Albergo della Lunetta but in much smaller quantity than the large scale market scene (since the Middle Ages!) in the Campo dei Fiori.

I have stayed in various areas of Rome and like the Campo dei Fiori district best because of its centrality and proximity to everything (within walking distance).

Another plug for Palazzo Olivia. The area cant be beat.Within walking distant to Piazza Navona,Pantheon, Vatican plus more.
