Buying a ticket from Orbitz??

At the moment I am contemplating the purchase of a few plane tickets through Orbitz and having never done it (only directly with the airlines), I am wondering about their track record, if this is totally dependable. I am assuming it is since they are not new to the business, however I would appreciate any fairly current advice on it. Thanks much. Halfpint

They are one of the "biggies" and there is nothing shady about Orbitz.

Sometimes they can get you a good deal, sometimes it is cheaper to go through the airline's own site.

So you don't have to worry about being cheated - but you won't always get the cheapest fare. I've used Orbitz maybe 4 or 5 times always w/ good results. But more often I book directly.

I have bought many times from Orbits. I think they are great. Besides good prices, they send you any updates for flight changes, remind you a day or two before to go and also remind you to come home. I have been very happy with them and just bought two tickets on Sunday from them.

Never had a problem purchsing through Orbitz. One thing I do is get the price from Orbitz then go to the airline's own website and price it out again. Sometimes it's cheaper to go through the airline and, if that's the case, I feel better going through them to make subsequent changes, notices, etc. easier.

If Orbitz is cheaper (and it often is) I'll buy through them with confidence.

I agree with the above posts. I have been using Orbitz for years and have never had a problem. And I love the fact that they email you with flight updates, no matter how small the change is.

I too have purchased through Orbitz and been happy with the results. And the itinerary change emails are wonderful. I booked several flights directly on AA and my biggest complaint is that they don't email changes and some of them are big enough that I've had to do some major rearranging. So if you found that the flight prices are good, go for it.

My son booked a Christmas-season, multi-leg trip through Orbitz. One of the flights was canceled and Orbitz didn't send him any warning. Fortunately he found out and scrambled around to find a replacement itinerary, difficult at that time of year.

I have also used Orbitz with no problem.

susanna, I can't understand needing to be reminded to go, but I can sure relate to having to be reminded to come home!

We have purchased airline tickets from Orbitz. The only problem was with our seats. You need to call the airline directly after your Orbitz purchse to confirm that you have the seats you want. We were assigned seats that the airline only released at the gate and also could not print out boarding passes in advance becuase of that glitch. We had to go to a ticket agent at the airport to straighten it all out.
