Buda versus Pest?

bus 16, i believe, is the easy trek across the chain bridge.
leaves from in front of the sofitel on pest side.
we stayed in pest, and would stay there again. the evening views from pest side to buda are beautiful, a reason alone to settle on that side IMO.
we used the reasonable priced marriot millenium executive apts.
great location and MUCH less expensive than the marriot (at least when we were booking).
however, i have to admit that if i found a real hotel deal on the buda side.. i would go for that, just because i don't like to overspend on hotels.
transport is good and very extensive, making it easy to get from even further away places to the town. and so many of the attractions are spread out, too, that you are actually covering a lot of ground anyway.

I also stayed on the Pest side of the river and am glad I made that decision. I would stay there again. I stayed in the Marriott which is right on the river and an easy walk across one of the bridges to the Buda side.
The Pest side is great for finding restaurants or bars for exploring in the evening. Buda is best explored in the day and as already mentioned, transport around the city is easy.

Scotcan, who must be a canny Canadian Scot (just like me, LOL!) has it right: Pest, always!
There are a few charming relatively unknown hotels on the Buda side, close to the river, but most people who recommend Buda on this board stay up in the Castle district (e.g. Hilton) -- too remote from the "real" Budapest for my liking.
And the view of Buda from Pest, as noted above, is spectacular -- especially at sunset and especially from the top-floor units of the Marriott Executive suites.

Much perferred the Castle District of Buda to Pest. Stayed at the Berg Hotel on the main square across from the Hilton. The Castle District is fairy-tale-like. Pest we found very dreary and dirty. I think the view of the Parliament and Pest from Buda is not to be beat. Also great fun browsing the antique shops there.

scotscan: Not the executive floor of the Marriott but the upper floors of the Marriott (Executive) Apartments.
I think we paid, perhaps, 90 or was it 110 euros with breakfast.
April 2004: One bedroom apartment with sitting room, kitchen and bath -- and a view clear over to Buda castle.
Lower floors look into a courtyard, though.

our 2 bedroom, 2 bath, was 135 euros (per APT)with breakfast and faint view of elisabeth bridge.
still great.
we soaked in the chain bridge view from the floating "spoon cafe" every night.

In Budapest I stayed on the Buda side at the Carlton, nice room with a view of the parliament buildings but a steep climb to the castle. Still, the climb was a rather less alarming start to the day than trying to get across the roundabout at Clark Adam terrace!

Scotcan : You made me laugh at the mention of trying to cross the roundabout at Clark Adam Ter ! I know what you mean. Just a few weeks ago, I was stuck doing the same thing; I had 5 minutes to spare to get to a show up by the Funicular and almost missed it for trying to cross the roundabout. Thankfully it was late getting started and I even had time for a drink and a bite to eat in the end.

The Canadian embassy or perhaps the redoutable Ibolya, his local counterpart, may have browbeaten the Marriott into giving a better corporate rate for a 10-day stay.
