BKK to CDG to ATL on Air France
We are flying from Bangkok to Atlanta on Dec. 31 / Jan 1 with a stopover in Paris / CDG just for the night - all flights are on AF. Will our luggage be checked thru so that we need to have our overnight stuff in a separate carry-on? I'm looking at hotels at CDG - most involve a shuttle. We will not have cold-weather clothes so I am thinking it might be best to just stay in the Sheraton that is right in CDG. I assume most shuttles would involve being outside for at least 5 or 10 minutes?

There are at least two hotels at the airport. They will probably require hopping on the tram/shuttle to get to them but it's no big deal. Figure waiting 5-15 min outside for the transportation.
You should have cold weather clothes with you because Atlanta can get cold in the Winter. Sometimes they even get SNOW!!!

Thanks sparkchaser - Atl we know, we live there and friends will be dropping us off and picking us up so we will be traveling with just light weight jackets - so I'm not sure I want even 5 to 10 minutes outside waiting for a shuttle in Paris!

It's cold enough in winter that you are going to be very cold without a jacket. Since you are flying in winter, even if from Bangkok and will be going to Atlanta (which isn't that hot in January), maybe you should have some lightweight fleece or something with you, anyway? I know when I fly to some hot water destination in winter, I always wear something like that in the car both ways and airport (and planes can get cold anyway). Then when I get where I'm going, just roll it up or stick it in the closet and forget it. One of those packable down jackets scrunches up real small, actually, that might be most versatile for your trip.

Can anyone tell me if my luggage will be checked thru from BKK to ATL, therefore no access at CDG and if they used a shuttle how long was the wait? I looked at the temps. - usual nighttime temps are around 32 degrees - I have yet to be on a flight that was THAT cold.

The Air France website does not show any service to Bangkok. That suggests one of their partner airlines is operating that flight. Your ticket should show which one is actually flying the aircraft. One possibility is to call (or e-mail) that airline's customer service to see if it has an inter-line arrangement for luggage with AF. If AF somehow sold you the ticket for the trip, their customer service might help. If an agency put the trip together, it might help (but reliability of info is a big 'if'.)
The Charles de Gaulle website is helpful for finding hotels in or adjoining the terminals http://www.aeroportsdeparis.fr/ADP/e...assagers/Home/
There are plenty of hotels a few minutes drive by shuttle from the terminals; any hotel search site will turn some up for you. Or take a cab.

Thanks, Patty. My research should have been more thorough; it appears the flight does not operate every day of the week and my test sample hit on one of those no-fly days. You're right that the luggage situation should be simple.

There are a few hotels just yards from heated space at CDG1/Roissypole with is reachable by tram, Ibis and Novotel. No shuttle required.

Honestly, southerners and cold weather, it's not it's the ebola virus. And Paris doesn't get really cold weather anyway.
