Best location to stay in rome
Curious about what location people recommend for hotel in rome . Travelling with husband and two teens . Want to stay in hotel that's convenient to most sites, also near good shopping and restauranrs . What section of rome should we look at ?Can spend up to 450$ per night per room
Thanks

hi jessica,
how long will you be staying? if it's more than 3 nights, you might find it cheaper and more comfortable to rent an apartment, rather than stay in a hotel, especially with teenagers. With that sort of budget, you shouldn't have any problem getting somewhere nice in a central area.
What time of year are we talking about?

It doesn't seem like budget would be a concern, based on the amount you listed per night. But agree that renting an apartment would be great, especially for the teens. More room to spread out and you have a fridge and kitchen for snacking, breakfast, etc.
You can check sleepinitaly.com, rentalinrome.com and booking.com, to start.
I agree that the Piazza Navona or Campo de Fiori areas are both recommended for walking to most sites.
Buon viaggio!

We have stayed twice at Albergo Cesari near the Pantheon with our kids (one is no longer a teenager but they were when we stayed there). Excellent central location - just what you are looking for. I would also recommend looking at apts - just to have more space if there for more than a few nights. Look at vrbo.com and airbnb.com

I really prefer a hotel, and with your budget cost won't be a problem. I do rent apartments from time to time, but I find the whole process to be a hassle: the cash I have to carry; the phone call I need to make as soon as I get to the train station (will you have a phone that works in Italy?); the odds and ends I always have to pick up for the apartment, such as paper towels, and whatnot; the daily housekeeping I end up having to do because I'm the only one who ever thinks to clean the hair out of the shower stall. I'd rather have a hotel, where the front desk can answer questions, or call me a taxi, or hold my bags for a few hours after checkout; and I especially like to come back to a room that's been made up while I was out.
There are some hotels that manage their own apartments, and these have most of the advantages of a hotel combined with the advantages of an apartment. The Campo de'Fiori is one hotel with apartments they manage (they call them "dependances".

This is a very nice hotel in a very central location. It's a bit over my budget, but it should be fine for you. If you don't want to stay in a dependance, the hotel itself is great.

I stayed in Albergo del Senato with my husband and two teenage sons two years ago, and we all loved it. It is overlooking the Pantheon (literally, and they have a lovely rooftop bar). There are many restaurants within walking distance, and we were able to walk all over from there. I highly recommend it.

Be aware that hotel rooms in Italy have a maximum number of occupants. It is rare to have room that would accomdate 4 adults in one room, if that's what you were planning
I use booking.com, once you have search for Rome hotels on your date, you can narrow the search to specific areas.
