Best Area with Old Stone Self-Catering Cottages in Co. Wicklow???

Hi -

The consensus seems to be that we should look for lodgings close to Glendalough and Laragh.

But ... we've got our hearts set on finding an old, stone, self-catering cottage--and there don't seem to be any in that area. We're not sure what the attractions are that we should be trying to be near, so we're having trouble assessing which of the following locations might be most convenient--and which ones to avoid.

We're looking online at lovely cottages near: Hollywood; Baltinglass; Blessington; Shillelagh; and Tomanierin (which we can't even find on the map!)

They all look wonderful--but we have no idea what would constitute a good location -- near the main attractions.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

We're narrowing things down and our favorite cottages are "The Park" in Ballycreen (6 miles from Aughrim) and "The Steward's House" in Baltinglass.

Any thoughts on whether one is a better location?

Also ... Huntington Castle in Clonegal (Co. Wexford) looks fantastic. Any thoughts about that location?

Thanks so much!

Thought you might like seeing what we decided on--"The Old Milking Parlour". It seemed like the most central location as a base in Wicklow.

Couldn't find anything we loved that was closer to Glendalough or Laragh. But this looks wonderful--and very interesting! Should be an easy drive to beaches, Powerscourt, Glendalough, and more. Can't wait!

Songdoc,

This cottage looks spectacular! Thanks for providing the link -- we also are hoping to spend a week in Wicklow. Since we will also be in the Dingle area, would you still recommend Couminole?

Thanks so much!

Glad you liked the Old Milking Parlour. I was excited to find it.

I definitely recommend Couminole Cottage. The only negative is having to drive into town to hear music -- but I'd definitely stay there again because the setting and views are fantastic.
