After spending a few hours trying to navigate multiple bus websites with no positive outcome, I will do what I should have done in th the first place: ask Fodorites.

Which is the best way to get from the Monastir de Pedralbes to Parc Guell using public transportation. I know that it is desirable to arrive via Line #92 to the parc so that one goes in through the side entrance and just walk downhill, but making the connections from the Monastery is completely baffling.

Or should I just get a taxi? Is the metro a better option?

Bus line 74 goes right by the monastery and then goes over to Parc Guell, just a few blocks south of it along Travessera de Dalt. There is a stop labeled Jardins del Palau de Pedralbes which is just a stop or two before its western endpoint (zona Universit). At least there would be no transfers, not sure how far you want to walk at the end below Parc Guell. You can check the map http://www.tmb.cat/en/linia-de-bus/-/bus/74

I am not sure if I read the TMB map right, but it looks as if bus 74 goes right by Pedralbes palace, but not Pedralbes monastery.

From the map, I would take bus 22 (direction Pl. Catalunya) from the bus stop next to the monastery "Bisbe Català-Bosch i Gimpera" to bus stop "Av Prínceps d'Astúries 59".

Walk back appr. 50 yards until that street merges with C/ Gran de Gràcia
Get across Gran de Gràcia, to bus stop "Pl. Lesseps - Gran de Gràcia".
(This sounds much more complicated as it is, as the two bus stops both serve the metro Lesseps at that location but have different names though just a stone's throw apart)

Take bus 24 (direction Carmel) to bus stop "Carretera del Carmel - Parc Güell"
This bus stop will be the one next to the side entrance up on the hill which you mentioned.

Just an idea: If you are traveling to the monastery and looking for a place to eat lunch, you might be interested in Can Marti, where I had a good meal last year. I would guess that it draws very few tourists, The Catalan-style food is cooked largely on an outdoor grill, and there is a great view of the monastery and the city beyond. We went for a calcotada, but although this is not calcot season, I would guess that they have many alternatives, mostly meat-based. Prices seem fair and they have a lunch menu in addition to a la carte.

ps. You cannot walk from the monastery, though, but it is just a minute or two further on the train, and then you will take the cable car.

That's true that the bus 74 I mentioned has a stop down on av Diagonal near the palace, and the monastery is to the north of that maybe 500 m up av des Pedralbes.
