Barcelona hotel help?

We will be getting off a cruise ship and staying in Barcelona one night before flying out at 6:30 a.m. the next morning. Can you please give us advice on where we should stay? I was thinking near the airport, since our flight is so early. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you in advance. Names of hotels would be helpful also, we have never been to Barcelona.

When are you arriving, and what is your hotel budget?

The airport is only a short taxi ride from the center of the city, so there is no reason to stay close to the airport and miss out on a night in Barcelona.

Thank you, Robert, for your reply. The cruise is in October, and the ship comes into Barcelona early (5:00 a.m., but it will take a few hours before I leave the ship) on a Friday. My flight leaves Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. I will be a single woman also, as my friend is staying on the ship for an additional week of cruising (girls get-away trip) I don't want the most expensive room, just want a clean, safe place, mid-range price wise. It would be nice to be able to walk to dinner, see some sights, etc. But I won't be out late by myself, especially with an early flight. I am also in my early 50's, if that makes any difference (do not need to be by any hot singles bars or dance places.) Appreciate your help with suggestions. mary

Last year, i stayed at Royal Hotel on Las Ramblas, one block from Piace de Catalunya, clean and functional room, within walking distance to major sites, for details, please check: www.hroyal.com.

From the hotel to airport is only a short taxi ride, as this is your first time to barcelona, perhaps it would be more convenient to stay in town centre.

If you want something very nice in L'Eixample, then I'd suggest staying at the Hotel Majestic, but if you don't want to spend that much on a room, then the Granados 83, the Apsis Atrium Place, Pulitzer or even the Actual should be fine in both location, class and comfort. You might also want to take a look at Maribel's Guide to Barcelona (http://maribelsguides.com) to make the most of your one-night in the city.

Thank you, Judy and Robert, for your advice. I really appreciate it. I am glad I don't have to stay near the airport and miss out on seeing more of Barcelona. I will check out Maribels guide site, and the hotels suggested, as I want to make the most of my short stay here. I also appreciate good food. Do you have a suggestion for a place to eat, that I wouldn't feel odd being alone? I usually eat at the bar, when I am alone. I usually can talk to the bartender or others at the bar. I am not shy, and do enjoy meeting/talking to people on trips. If you have a rest. recommendation, please share that too. If not, I will look at the chowhound site, which I recommend to anyone looking for dinning advice. Thanks again, so much, I appreciate your time and suggestions. mary

We liked the HGotel Lleo very much: well located, reasonably priced, large rooms, modern bathrooms, friendly and helpful front desk staff.

Hotel Continental is right on Las Ramblas near Placa Catalyuna so very central to everything which is important with only one day. That's no where near "enough" time in Barcelona but I'm sure you already know that. My sister in law had a very early flight the day we left and it was an easy taxi ride to the airport from that hotel.

I would give another vote to the Apsis Atrium Palace which is just two blocks from the Placa Catalunya.

I've also stayed at the Colon but IMO the AP is a bit more central.

Thank you, Isabel and Dukey. Do you book directly with the hotel, or use another site when booking rooms overseas? Thanks again everyone! mary
