Barcelona - 3 questions

Considering a one week visit to Barcelona (first time) this fall. We are well-travelled (5 continents) and have stayed in all types of hotels through the years. We would like to be based in a central sight-seeing location, with as much atmosphere as possible (i.e., as far away in feeling from suburban Connectict as one can get). Here are my three questions:

1. What sort of weather might we expect in the last week of October?

2. How is the dollar doing these days in Barcelona - - - does it feel expensive to be there?

3. Can you recommend a moderate, well-situated hotel? We do not need a pool or 24-hour room service or any "extras;" just nice, clean rooms with solid service.

Thanks!

Do you have a budget in mind?

Moderate doesn't mean much. Are you looking for something under €150/night?

The US Dollar is doing a little better than it was this past summer, but it's still reasonably expensive because the price of food, fuel and everything else has gone up this year.

Budget = EUROS 200, or USD 300 per night.

if you are staying one week ,you might look at renting an apt. ( we do it most of the time)

http://www.habitatapartments.com

It will cost you less than a hotel, one can have a coffee or breakfast in the morning etc... much more economical

I don't find Barcelona expensive ; public transit is excellent and cheap, tapas and great and cheap and wine is fantastic and cheap!

Ditto what the previous poster said. Another rental comapany is www.freindlyrentals.com - there are alot of apartments to chose from. I would pick one in the old city or El Born area. I think that while not exactly cheap, you don't have to spend alot of money to enjoy Barcelona - alot of the modernist buildings, the old city, the port, the beach, Las Ramblas, Parc Guell are all enoyable just strolling around. And you can get good food and decent wine (but I'm not picky) for reasonable prices. And the public transportation is good but do watch your money - we were pickpocketed on the metro there - first time that happened to me in over 20 trips to Europe. But I'm still singing the praises of Barcelona - have a great trip!

I went in October 2006- weather warmish during the day but you'll need a light jacket or heavy sweater at night. I too stayed in an apt- (LovingBarcelona..the Calders Apt). The location was excellent.

We're going to be in Barcelona the last week of October and have rented an apartment just off the Ramblas at the north end. We much prefer apartments to hotels - more space and usually quite a bit less expensive. Google "apartment rental in Barcelona" and you will come up with lots of agencies.

I researched weather history and last year for last week in Barcelona the highest temp was 73 but usually between 66-68 and the low from 46 to 55. And no rain.
