Athlone ireland: Restaurant and lodging

Can anyone suggest a place to stay in Athlone within walking distance to a good restaurant? As long as the restaurant is really good, we'll stay anywhere close to it!

Has anyone tried Left Bank Bistro in Athlone?? This is just one I have happened across on the internet, I would appreciate suggestions if there is somewhere better.

Many thanks

Angela

Hi Angela
I don't know the Left Bank Bistrot - I do know of Le Chateau.
There is a new Radisson Hotel right on the Shannon in Athlone.
Also try www.beourguest.ie - hidden ireland and blue book.

If you don't have to be right in downtown Athlone I would recommend Glasson Stone Lodge (a bit north of the city) in Glasson (Village of the Roses). There are a couple of excellent restaurants within waking distance in this tiny village. Also a couple of good pubs. If you decide to stay Carmel at Glasson Stone Lodge can make your dinner reservations for you.
