Help! These markets are both on Saturday! We are overnighting Friday in Arles. Should we skip the Arles market and make the effort to drive to Uzes? Our destination is St. Remy. Or should we just forget the Uzes market and go there on Sunday hoping something might be open for lunch? Thank you to Stu Dudley and others who offer advice.
Arles, France market or Uzes market?

Arles is a picturesque town with lots of Roman monuments, shady boulevards, restaurants etc. Of course, the market is fine. So, you will have a good time in Arles. IMO, Arles has more to offer than Uzes.
The main reason to drive to Uzes might be that you have the chance to see Pont du Gard on the way and maybe Nimes on the way back. Nimes has the most spectacular Roman monuments in the region. But Arles comes close.
Another reason for Uzes is their poteries--really fun and nice pottery all around town.
I love Uzes - both the town and the market. However, I think the market interferes with the ambiance/enjoyment of the town itself. I would go to the Arles market on Sat & Uzes on Sunday (combined with the Pont du Gard & Castillon du Gard).

The Arles market is huge - it's a big town. Uzès is small. I'd go to Arles and visit Uzès on Sunday.
Thank you so much everyone! This confirms my thinking! I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your help! Stu, I particularly enjoyed your recommendations for the inclusion of the St. Antonin Noble Val through the Gorges de l'Aveyron route. Very much looking forward to our six weeks in France.
you will actually enjoy the beauty and the tremendous historical heritage of Uzès much better on sunday, without having all the market stands on your way.
Ten years ago, while in Provence with my sisters, we visited the Arles market. It was then and is to this day the best market I have ever seen. We have all been to Europe many times before and many times since but have never had so much fun at a market. We were there in late May and the fruits and vegetables, meats, pastries, flowers, cheeses, herbs, spices, etc. were amazing.
When I was in Uzes just over a week ago, Sat. was market day and Sun. was brocante day; don't know if it's every Sun., but the town was just as busy on Sun. as Sat.
Loved the week we spent in Uzes.
